The first thing that comes to mind is Tchaikovsky's violin concerto. The link is a recording with David Oistrakh.

I can't choose either, but Variations on "The Last Rose of Summer" by Ernst is one of my favourites. Just a bit beyond my skill level, though :)

This performance by Midori is excellent.
