*first official Utah's smartphone platform

Also the article itself says reception is mixed.

Also not like there's much option. Afaik, it would be either that, IOS, Linux Phone, or someone's having to make a state-issued OS from zero.

I really don't see why it is important in any way?

Do I miss something?

I doubt it affects just about anyone.

WOW is that title misleading.

[-] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's the title of the source article. Common etiquette on sites like Lemmy is to use the original title.

[-] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

At this point the etiquette should be to de-clickbait titles. But then nobody would be interested in this post.

I agree, titles should be fixed, maybe with a note saying what the original title was.

[-] Strayce@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yes. And it's misleading.

[Utah state senator Kirk] Cullimore insists that this bill is a real thing, telling reporters, “Someday, everybody with an iPhone will realize that the technology is better on Android.”

Well, the keyboard certainly is. 2019 Galaxy S10 (the base one with the fingerprint reader on the side, 5.8", 128GB storage, 8GB RAM) vs 2024 iPhone Pro Max 512GB... guess which one has the more accurate keyboard? Yep, the Galaxy. (Using Gboard, of course, as one does on Android.) Even switching to Gboard on iOS doesn't make it as good as Gboard is on Android, due to iOS limitations.

The iPhone's my daily driver, but my plan is, in a few years, to replace the Android phone. So I'll go back and forth. I want iOS for Apple Health. I like having my health information, and I don't like it sold to advertisers like Samsung does. (My wife's Galaxy S22 said she had to either consent to them sharing all her health data with third parties, or she had to let them delete all her health data and stop recording it. She chose the second option. I don't think my S10 got that update, plus I never activated Samsung Health.)

Also, Utahns can continue to use iPhones without penalty. Killing the state bird is a no-no, but not supporting the official state mobile operating system does not carry a penalty... yet.

Cullimore insists that this bill is a real thing, telling reporters, “Someday, everybody with an iPhone will realize that the technology is better on Android.” The senator doesn’t seem to have a lot of support in his own household, though, admitting that the rest of his family are all Apple users.

What the heck is wrong with this guy? Just an Android fanboy with too much free time and power?

If everyone was going to realize that Android was better, they probably would have done so a long time ago.
