You might need a new therapist, which is okay. I haven't been to therapy in over a decade, but when I used to go, I used to do things like this, and my therapist would interrupt and say "it sounds like you're deflecting, do you think there's a reason for that?" and try to get me to go in a different direction.

Just some unsolicited advice, have a good day xo

I just speak in 1s and 0s to see if they’re really paying attention

The totally unnecessary response kinda kills this.

It depends hugely on what the therapy is trying to help. I personally find this sort of therapy completely useless. I needed active guidance and advice for what I needed to change and do.

A good therapist adapts to what the patient needs. Sometimes that is space to vent. Sometimes it is a guiding hand. Sometimes it's a (verbal) slap to the face to stop you running in panicking circles.

I had a therapist once who was like this. Would ask one or two questions at the start and then just shut up for the rest of the session. That doesn't work for me at all. If i want to hear myself talk about my problems i can just record myself on any given day. Sometimes you need feedback, not just some one to talk at. I ended up having "insurance problems" and never going back. Yes thats something i need to work on, shut up.

Being a psychiatrist has got to be some of the worst type of hell in this age. I can only imagine that like within the first 5 minutes they clock that every problem their patient has is brought on by the patient. How do you tell some self-centered little shit, who complains that everyone else needs to stay in their own lane while demanding nigh on constant validation and feels entitled to everyone's preference that they are the problem in their life? Especially when they can run to Google reviews and tank your business because you didn't give them the "vibes" they were looking for.

Well you clearly aren't going to one so it's probably not an issue for them
