Curious to know what the experiences are for those who are sticking to bare metal. Would like to better understand what keeps such admins from migrating to containers, Docker, Podman, Virtual Machines, etc. What keeps you on bare metal in 2025?

Still interested in thoughts on where containers are just not the answer for people. It is genuine question, not a judgement. One size never fits all, but the commonality is everyone is interested in selfhosting.

The simple answer is "for all the apps whose developers don't publish a containerized image."

This was the case the last time I tried to setup a Space Engineers game server. There's at least one unofficial containerized image, but it ran like garbage.

A background in OS security precludes using any containers, thanks. The fact that containers frustrate consolidated SBoM manifest validation is just a small part of it.

Thanks for the thought!
