Federation from mastodon to Lemmy? (lemm.ee)

I made a comment on a kbin post via mastodon. About five minutes later I saw that same post on Lemmy. The comment was not there. Is it just federating slowly (how long does it take?) or is my understanding that mastodon and Lemmy are connected in this way incorrect?

Federation is just very slow as most Lemmy instances still adapt to the Reddit influx.

My mastodon account gets the comment to lemmy same time as i make the comment. your lemmy instance is probably getting an influx of users thats why its probably kinda slow. don't know the status for lemm.ee
