This doesn’t look like Arch.

Debian users will eventually tell everyone, but it’ll take 2 years before they see the question.

[-] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago

Gentoo users would too, but their social skills are still compiling

My first lemmy account was on an instance called iusearchlinux.fyi then it just disappeared suddenly and without explanation (admin probably burnt out). Anyway, it was nice to be able to tell people i use arch linux without actually having to tell them. I miss that instance

[-] mech@feddit.org 6 points 2 months ago

The server it ran on crashed after an update, and the wiki doesn't mention recovery of a lemmy instance.

[-] promitheas@programming.dev 3 points 2 months ago

Oh i didnt know about this. Where did you read this, id like to see if theres more info?

I tried it but TF2 wouldn't launch so I switched to Ubuntu.

[-] Petter1@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 months ago

If a user doesn’t learn how to manage nvidia proprietary drivers on arch, they probably are in a better home at ubuntu

Assuming that this was the problem…

[-] henfredemars@infosec.pub 7 points 2 months ago

I installed TF2 on a Mac with only integrated graphics in college and played a ten to twelve FPS slideshow for years.

It was Debian as well.

[-] Venat0r@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I've been playing it on and off since launch and never got less than 60fps 😅, but generally around 120fps as I had a 3d vision monitor(that didn't work so well in source games though iirc).

didn't get as far as seeing a framerate in arch, couldn't work out why it wasn't working and gave up 😅

haven't checked my framerate in Ubuntu but felt like about 144 or something like that

"We will track your location just this once to mail programmer socks also."

[-] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

If I was getting programmer socks in exchange for my personal data I wouldn't care so much about privacy.

The first rule of Linux is you talk about Linux. The second rule of Linux is do talk about Linux.

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

1st rule of Kernel club is you talk about Linux. 2nd rule of kernel club is you never talk about gnu

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

Ouch, that hurds.

Q: A crossfit trainer, a vegetarian, and a Baptist Christian walk into a bar. How do we know?

A: They told every god damn person in the bar within the first 5 fucking minutes

[-] Dagnet@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Can also add airplane pilot to that

[-] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 4 points 2 months ago

What does a crossfitting, vegan, Arch user talk about first?

[-] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 5 points 2 months ago

That's because these are GUI users, the real TOS is written in an arcane format only viewable by a cat or a bat.

Every time I have to, I have an inexplicable rage that appears deep within me that goes away as soon as I don't have to deal with it anymore.

[-] Breadhax0r@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

That rage was why I switched lol. All our work computers are on 11 and they frequently reset so almost every time I log in I get to freshly rage and spend a minute resetting the task bar and default adobe to the pdf reader.

No Microsoft! I cant use edge as a pdf editor why on earth would you think that.

AND WHY CANT I MOVE THE TASKBAR

[-] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

This is actually only in the Arch installer. lmao

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 months ago

And we obey!

Install Linux, everybody!

You'll get free cookies

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I am obligated to inform you that I run linux.

[-] warmaster@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

This is hilarious 🤣

[-] sonofearth@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

I use Arch BTW — just in case if Arch has that in their terms.

[-] qyron@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 months ago

Seems very reasonable.

1. Follow the site-wide rules

2. Be civil
  • Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
  • Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
  • Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
  • Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
  • Bigotry will not be tolerated.
  • 3. Post Linux-related content
  • Including Unix and BSD.
  • Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of sudo in Windows.
  • No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
  • Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
  • 4. No recent reposts
  • Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
