I literally doubled over laughing when they gave Machado the Peace Prize. What a fucking joke.

They gave Kissinger a peace prize so it was already a joke tbh. I would take it as a slight to receive one.

Kissinger won in '73, right after the bombing of Cambodia. Obama in '09 as he was gassing up the jets to level Libya and butcher Afghans for another eight years. Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzakh Rabin - three avowed terrorists - all got the prize in 1994 shortly before they fell back into their low-grade civil war. Kofi Annan and the UN won in 2001, seven years into running the phenomenally corrupt "Oil for Food" program used to loot Iraq.

It's a bad award for bad people.

Obama got the peace prize for literally not being W. Bush. No other reason.

Obama fans don't like hearing about how bad he was.

Agreed, the Obama administration was rotten, but boy, was he charismatic. My dislike of him has been one point of contention between my standard-issue US liberal neighbor while helping bridge the gap with my recovering MAGA other neighbor.

He was probably the best president we've had since Carter; which is just sad.

I'm glad Ben Norton included the bit about Machado's superrich cousin going to Miami on private jet shopping trips & making fun of how poor Americans were, it was really illustrative of what the comprador elite are like since they're the result of much sharper inequality. Mostly just really funny though

The "Peace Prize" winner has been trying to violently overthrow the Venezuelan government since the Bush Era failed coup in 2002.

I feel like at least half of the peace prizes have been given to pro-western / color revolution "dissidents" since the 60s

Also, wasn’t the Nobel Prize kind of just a western PR stunt?

The science ones are generally legitimate. The literature and peace prizes have been wholly co-opted by western interests. The economics prize isn’t even a real Nobel, it’s just a prize sponsored by the Swedish central bank and administered by the Nobel Institute, and it’s a pure PR tool for legitimizing neoliberalism.

At least Wałęsa didn’t want his nation to die under tyranny.

That's a very risky statement. wałęsa is the personification of the worst stereotypes of lumpenproletariat, he would DID sold entire nation under the tyranny of the exact same capitalism she is doing. If that would entail violent forever war at the hand of USA, why not, in a blink.

I feel like the CIA forced her getting the peace prize for the upcoming war, but she's really fucking bad at manufacturing consent.

The elites can't see that because she says everything they want but I think this kinda shit doesn't go well with literally everyone else

She also publicly thanked the founders of the Atlas network, a US right wing think tank and likely CIA front whose purpose is to funnel money to North Korean defectors, venezuelan opposition figures like herself, the Ukrainian military, the anti-communist Cuban opposition, the anti-lula brazilian opposition, and probably a lot more ultra-right groups.
