looks like someone at redditinc suddenly realized it would potentially lose its section 230 immunity.

Can you explain why pls? I don’t know much about 230.
Basic idea is that if you own a website where people post stuff, you aren't responsible for what people post.
It gets difficult to argue its not you if you put the person in charge of what posts are allowed.
Thank you for responding, and you are correct.
Could you explain the idea in a few words?
Not the same person but:

Basically, "providers" aren't considered to be publishing content. They're just providing a means to transmit it. Like you can't hold the phone company liable if one criminal calls another and the two organize a bank heist. You can call that "Section 230 immunity".
However, once a company starts creating/directing/moderating the content it is providing it can no longer say "we're just a pipe stuff flows through".
That's very informative, thanks! Now I get it.
Thank you for responding, and you are spot on.
IMHO at this point Reddit has made it clear that they don't want the mods on their platform, so they should just quietly leave the sub to rot.
They don't want quality users either, just sheep in large enough numbers so the greedy little pig boy can get a nice post-IPO bonus .
Reddit's maltreatment of its users and mods is absolutely insulting.
ETA: missing word 'numbers'.
They made it clear they don't want the users either. NO PEOPLE, ONLY CONTENT.
NO TAKE, ONLY THROW
I just looked at r/mildlyinteresting and there are only two moderators in the list, and one of them is Automod. Did they only have one real Moderator? Does it take so long for them to reappear or is Reddit (the company) sowing misinformation?
New mods will show in the sidebar right away from my experience.
Not surprised they would need to hire actual people if they replace the slaves.
Bet it just was a spook to force the mods to slave again.
Scabs?
