All about dogs - dog breeds, dog training and behavior, news affecting dog owners or handlers, puppy pics, etc.

Rules (Will be refined later on).

  1. Don't be a dick. This should cover most things, just keep in mind that everyone started somewhere and try to be helpful rather than rude or judgmental.

  2. No personal attacks based on training style or tools.
Discussion of balanced training including proper use of aversives is allowed here.

  3. All breeds and mixes are welcome. You can criticize backyard breeding practices but don't pile on people because they own a specific breed or prefer purebreds or mixed breeds.

  4. Do not support backyard breeders or puppy mills. Please do not link to or suggest buying from high volume breeders or those with an obvious lack of standards and testing.

  5. Do not help or support fake service animals. Please do not encourage people to buy fake service dog vest or ESA letters to get around rental or other restrictions & do not give advice on how to misrepresent a dog as a service or support animal.

I have a heavy shedding lab along with some other dogs who shed at or a little above average.

We use furminator Deshedding tools on them, but I'd like to take it a step further because it just gets ridiculous as we come into summer months. We wash all 3 dogs almost every other week.

I'd like to see if any of you have any recipes for both Deshedding shampoo and conditioner.

This video from GO Groomer is my inspiration for this request. https://youtu.be/EwrDnLjj5l8

Have you considered going to a self serve dog wash and using their higher pressure water and dryer?

I also feel you are washing your dogs too often. You can give them dermatitis if you wash too often, they also will smell worse if you bathe too often.

I would google for your breeds how often they should be bathed. For instance, it's recommended that a GSD be bathed every 3-4 months. Some dogs can be bathed once a month.

Desshedding active ingredients are omega 3, fatty acids and vitamin e.

shampoo

  • 1 quart water
  • 1 cup gentle baby shampoo or non-toxic dish soap
  • 1/3 cup glycerin
  • 2 tbsp. aloe vera gel
  • 1/2 cup white or apple cider vinegar

conditioner

  • 1/4 cup raw rolled oats ground into a powder in a blender
  • 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
  • 1 cup warm water

Thank you. I looked back at our calendar and we do take them to a Tractor Supply where they have the dog wash stations.

We actually wash them about once a month or less. It just feels like more often. Lol

Thank you for the recommendation on the diy shampoo and conditioner.

Tractor Supply has dog washing stations, is that a common thing?

It is in ours.
