i was in academia for 10 years before getting out, and this is par for the course.

university administrators are slime, the regeant/trustee/governor boards are all representstive of the most connected capital formations, and all these people care about is the reputation (re: fundraising from potential billionaire donors) of the institution.

all the rules, by laws, shared governance and other expectstions of processes to protect anyone, including tenured facilty, vanish like a fart in the wind when the currency (reputation) is threatened.

disgustingly, this system PROTECTS monsters like Sandusky and that gymnastics predator at Michigan, and the thousands of other bullies and sex pests you have never heard of, because the first move is to hide the problem from the public, pull strings to kill stories, quietly exit bad actors with glowing references to go prey on others elsewhere, etc.

the managerial university perfectly represents the non-existent political power of professional-managerial progressives. the leaders at these institutions are going to gleefully gut their programs until every school is in perfect compliance with the decrees from forces of reaction.

ENGL 360: Literature for Children class were reading “Jude Saves the World,” a novel that features a 12-year-old protagonist who navigates coming out as nonbinary.

On the projector screen, Professor Melissa McCoul shared a graphic of a purple “gender unicorn,” often used to teach the differences between gender identity, expression and sexuality.

so the literature for children class covered a book for children and the admins say that the teacher was teaching things outside of the course description?

I heard about this. Absolute bullshit and that video is infuriating. Reminds me of kids in elementary school with evangelical parents who pulled them out of anything Halloween related. That included watching Scooby Doo

I started college at peak woke. Back then I thought it was kinda cringey and performative. What is the point of doing a land acknowledgement when your anthropology department still holds the remains of native ancestors despite their descendants objections? But with the all out assault on education, it makes me miss the good ol’ days where universities pretended to care and in some cases very nearly did something positive.
