I started a new job last month. I'm about to get my first pay raise and with that I'll be making twice as much as I was making just a couple months ago at my last job. Most seem happy for me cause I'm slightly less depressed coming home from this job and am making a good amount of money. However I still just hate being here cause work is soul crushing. Nothing about working anywhere feels worth it for any amount of money. It just sucks away all the time and energy I'd be much better off spending doing literally anything else.

Starting a new job basically working for the state Monday and I'm pumped ! I can see the direct benefit of society from the work I'll be doing and that motivates me. Now to get such a job though that's a hard one

Worth depends on the target you want to achieve. It’s part of the equation.

What job fits the target of your basic needs being met?

My target is doing as little as possible while dealing with as few people as possible while making enough to survive in the cheapest shelter I can find without being forced to rely on roommates.

Listen I'm not gonna tell you there's a job out there that will absolutely make you happy. But my guy, you went from one of the most soul crushing environments imaginable straight in to another one.

These environments demand a lot of you, both mentally and physically. There are better places to be. Any chance you could get in to trade school?

If there was any trade that I'd give a shit about, then probably. I'm not willing to spend the massive amount of money on a maybe. I already make $50k a year at a slaughterhouse.

I went to a trade school that was only like 2k a semester or less. Now, I work a job that I mostly enjoy at a small company that actually cares about its employees. It’s work so it still sucks but it’s very tolerable and I’m in a good mood when I got home.

I’m not saying it’ll work for you or it’s a cure all but it’s an option and if you’re miserable now, you’re going to be miserable in two years but if you work towards a trade or some other way to change your situation, who know where you could be in two years. You might even be in the same place but at least you’d have options.

I grew up in an area with a lot of fatalism in our world view and I hear some of that in your comments. The people my age that leaned into that thought are still in my small hometown, not doing a whole lot but they seem happy enough. Many of the people who escaped that thinking seem to be thriving.

I’m not telling you how to live your life, I’m just giving my opinion. In the end I don’t want to have a job either but if I have to have one, I don’t want it to make me miserable every day, that just sounds like an awful waste to me.

Trade school is usually pretty cheap. Most manufacturers will pay for you to go to school on top of that. I work with a lot of welders, none of them paid for their education, half of them don't even have one.

Welders start at 55k a year. In our plant they cap out at 75. The guys who are good fuck off to an oil rig and make an ass load more and only work 6 months a year.

I only mention welding because you sound like you'd get along with welders.
