What happens when you realize that most of them want Hitler

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

the ones that think that the dems are the same are so brain broken over gaza at this point they're as brainwashed as maga

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They don't want Hitler, they just want everything he stood for with a few groups swapped out. If they actually wanted Hitler, that would be bad, because dad/grandpa fought against Hitler.

Any apparent hypocrisy is just a technicality, and people only point it out because of their derangement syndrome. /s

If nothing that’s happened yet had convinced them, then not much will. There are even people now who are personally affected by his shit that can’t smell it.

[-] [email protected] 17 points 2 weeks ago

People still believe he's only going after people who break the law, even though ICE is also arresting people going through legal immigration processes

[-] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

I was listening to recent focus groups talking about him and this idea that he is a tough guy going after bad guys was a unifying theme. Its bizarre to hear it but for the people caught up in the Republican media ecosystem there's still this whole other Trump. Despite all the evidence they cling to this image of him as some kind of powerful and macho leader.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

And citizens!

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Their media doesn't talk about the also.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Yep. I occasionally hear the fucking stupid doj advertisement about how trump is arresting murderers and violent felons. I always want to shake the people around who are nodding along with it and ask them how they can only bring up a few cases out of the massive amount of people snatched off the streets.

Trump's very explicitly and unapologetically idolizes Mussolini and hopes to emulate Mussolini's government.

But past that... these are different people operating in different eras under starkly different conditions.

The '30s era fascists emerged in the wake of the Great Depression, following on the heels of a horrifying World War that eviscerated the continent.

Modem 21st century fascism is emerging in an era of unprecedented surplus and prosperity, with the wealthiest nations on Earth mobilizing the idle accumulated Cold War military assets to play tug of war with everyone else.

"Trump is Hitler" is dated and out of touch. He's a creature of the modern era. His own beast.

[-] [email protected] 14 points 2 weeks ago

There are many op-eds from the 30s where you would think Trump was being discussed. Geopolitics are radically different, but it's surprising how much they had in common personality wise.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

an era of unprecedented surplus and prosperity

The problem is that the wealth is consolidating in the hands of a few, with the plebs seeing none of it. A lot of us might as well be living through a depression, despite the economy.

Getting personally thrown in a concentration camp. And maybe not even then

[-] [email protected] 20 points 2 weeks ago

Easy answer. Super easy. Not easy to happen, but easy to give a valid answer.

Fox News would just have to have it as a talking point with a huge swath of their propagandists agreeing and all of them talking about it.

You could literally say "people that are outside for any amount of time on (insert random date about 2 weeks out or so) will gain the ability to fly and if you add a part about it relieving joint and back pain permanently if activated from height I guarantee you'd see a huge increase in deaths by falling from heights.

Red cities would just have old people splattered all over the sidewalks.

And the world would be a better place immediately.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

I hate so much that you’re 100% correct.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

We should find some way to get access to Fox's social medias to test this out

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

Nah, it would have to be the Fox News style full court press deception to have the intended effect.

Most people would be convinced something is true if a huge swathe of people they trust say it's true. (Myself included. I just try my best to vet trustworthy sources to begin with.)

Fox News accomplishes this by getting you to distrust all other sources and then serve you a variety of "charismatic personalities" all parroting the same propaganda. This is how they cultivate false consensus.

Russian twitter bots did it, don't see why we can't do it

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

I mean go for it I guess.

[-] [email protected] 15 points 2 weeks ago

I think the more pertinent question is, when the majority finally realize it, will it be too late? Will it make any difference?

[-] [email protected] 14 points 2 weeks ago

I wonder if it already is too late

[-] [email protected] 19 points 2 weeks ago

The damage to the USA, and the world trump has already done to-date will not be undone in the remainder of life of any person living today.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

It's already too late. This will get bloody.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Retro Hugo Boss-designed uniforms with shiny black boots? A spiffy new logo? They are currently a bit short on symbolism compared to the WW2 fascists.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

The violation of due process made the nazis, facist, hitler type labels no longer hyperbole. Then you get the concentration camps and military use inside of america. Anyone who can't see it at this point, I don't know if they ever can except in hindsite.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Mandatory tours of the camps alongside public trials and executions of leading figures of the maga movement

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago
[-] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago

Oh they will totally NOT deny that there will have been gas chambers.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

Alligator Alcatraz means you just push people into the water and the wildlife takes care of bodies.

[-] [email protected] 15 points 2 weeks ago

You misspelled "Alligator Auschwitz."

It's important to point out that correction every single time because "Alligator Alcatraz" is a limited hangout and therefore propaganda.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago
[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

I bet we won't know about the gas chambers until it's over

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I think at this stage, virtually everyone now acknowledges Trump is like Hitler. After all, the anti-Trump rallies had been more massive than expected, and something like the second biggest protest in US history.

However, for the unconvinced who still doesn't think Trump is fascist. What would have to happen? When social media and other sources of information is democratised. We live in different sets of reality because we are seeing only select sets of facts on to our media feeds, curated by propietary algorithms owned by private interests, to affirm our biases. Once we take away how social media is run by private companies, whose only interest is to anger us and to drive engagement and more ad revenue, we would be able to fully paint the bigger picture.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

trump seizing the Sudetenland.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

“It’s not like there are literal concentration camps!”

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

There would be tours through the facilities, merch shops and a guy in a costume entertaining the visitors.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

He would have to grow a tiny mustache and start speaking German.

Okay, maybe it's not that bad, but it really does seem like people have trouble generalising the concept of a fascist outside of it's historical visual trappings.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Those who voted for him wanted exactly that, they just don't want to admit it. There is nothing you can do to change their mind unless trump suddenly learns empathy and compassion then they will turn their backs on him instantly.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 2 weeks ago

That whole country is like Hitler, from the outside. So honestly this just seems to be overly dramatic, should have started worrying about that Hitler stuff sometime earlier.

I mean, when you'd let an American see that you don't think an American should decide something outside of USA (and that too belongs to natives), 9 in 10 would go livid. Most Americans don't understand that other countries have sovereignty as good as their own. Or that they are as good as any other people.

It's really just some of the paint falling off and showing that the wall consists of human bones among other things. As if nobody knew.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

As someone from outside, lol no.

Most Americans don’t understand that other countries have sovereignty as good as their own. Or that they are as good as any other people.

Okay, that bit is true. Hitler was a bit more than just oblivious, though.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 1 week ago

I'm not sure if Canada really counts as "from outside"

[-] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You go further, and people don't necessarily know how oblivious America is either, but go more by romanticised Hollywood tropes about the land of opportunity and cowboys.

Source: Have family all over.

Also, we pretty much see America as an adversary more often than not these days. You can kinda shove that 51st state implication.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Not as much 51st state as being on the same continent with pretty thoroughly replaced population.

But - OK =\ Honestly I'm not too knowledgeable about Canadian identities and nationalism.
