Trying looking at a sign or a sentence directly without reading it.

If I am fluent with the langauge and alphabet I kinda just start reading the words automatically.

I can't tell myself to not read.

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago

I accidently followed the instructions perfectly.

[-] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

That's why you're perfect.

How you felt after being unable to read top one on mobile and clicking to zoom in.

[-] ceenote@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago

Sometime during my processing of the bottom 3, I realized I shouldn't even look at the top line. I still haven't read it.

You said some shit about me, didn't you?

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

This person does NOT consent to reading.

I asked if I was the only one that gave a damn about the rules

Size of the typeface draws you eyes largest to smallest.

[-] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Centuries of playtesting

[-] slazer2au@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

[-] BigBenis@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

[-] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

[-] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 2 points 10 months ago

I read the top second cause I thought I should start from the top

That's why advertising is harassment

[-] YaksDC@sh.itjust.works 29 points 10 months ago

You are in luck, as your eyes get older they add their own blur effect.

Is this a good opportunity to introduce everyone to my obsession with not being able to consent to have public advertisements or sudden, unannounced advertisements hijack my brain from whatever i was trying to think?

[-] wizbiz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 10 months ago

Public advertising shouldn't be legal

[-] janus2@lemmy.zip 21 points 10 months ago

if it's less than ~10 words yes

if it's more words my ADHD psychic shield of "i aint readin all a' that" kicks in

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 10 months ago

May I ask, good sir or madam, that you read this reply on a public forum?

[-] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 10 months ago

There's this meme in argentina were people write "puto el que lee" that translate kinda to "gay who read".

I saw that on a scaffold one time curiosity got the best of me. Walked right into it

Homo says what.

Sorry for the term, it was the 90s.

It's even harder to ignore people who are talking to you, or are just talking loudly in general.

[-] Decq@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

I think just like the reading it's very different per person. I'm great at zoning out and not listening to people. Intentionally or not.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 months ago

You underestimated my power

[-] jjpamsterdam@feddit.org 9 points 10 months ago

Speak for yourself, person who doesn't require glasses.

I have seen plenty of signs and things I didn't actually read. That's how I end up missing exits on the freeway. 🤷‍♂️

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Some people can, some people can't.

Don't assume what you do is normal for anyone else.

[-] candyman337@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah if I try to read without focusing I mix up words often, I should probably get tested for dyslexia lol

[-] memfree@piefed.social 3 points 10 months ago

Don't do this while driving, but if you are a passenger in a car, focus on the traffic, the car in front of you, but NOT the license plate. You generally can't read it. You get a sense that there's a 'G' in there, but can't figure it out until you focus on the plate. The brain is funny that way.

Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
