I neatly wrap them up securely with zip ties and stack them in a 35 gallon tote. Only to need something on the bottem of that tote two days later when the tote is in my 100 plus degree shed outside.

The Box

Lord you're all fancy. I just shove any I have in a cupboard and forget they exist

I think I'm a bit slacker at home, but with other people's cables, especially at places I anticipate working at again. They get:

1. Grouped into like types
2. measured, and the length is written on masking tape
3. Rolled under/over into equally sized loops
4. tied off in two to three places. Ideally with reusable velcro cable ties, but if unavailable, twisty ties, or masking tape.

The trick with masking tape (or any other tape as a cable tie) is to go round backwards once (so the sticky side does not touch the cable), until it sticks to itself backwards, then fold it back and go round "the normal way", then once you're fully round the normal way, you fold the end over into a little "quick release tab". You can write a label on it, you can open it easily, it stays stuck to itself, so doesn't come off, it doesn't leave sticky residue all over (y)our cables.

Sometimes the cables are all stored in once place. Sometimes they're stored with a relevant object (I.e. a HDMI cable with a TV or Projector). The box of the object will be labelled to say if it contains such a cable.

I don't control their end destination, so that's someone else's task.

At home they'd just go into boxes, separated for power leads, USB leads, AV leads, misc, misc 2, "old", "stuff"and "things".

In the Drawer of Shame, as is right and proper with the Lord.

Just keep a couple of whole reels and make the ends off at the length I need rather than keep dozens of individual lengths.

I seem to store all the cables I never need on a hanging wall.
And all the cables I need constantly at the bottom of a bag-for-life in the shed.

Not like that, that’s for sure. That’s way too organised and logical. All over the shop mostly - eurorack cables in a little rack, patch cables hung over a convenient bar, power cables in a drawer, usb/phone/laptop power cables in a sorter case in said drawer, pedal patch cables in the pedal drawer. And then all the random ones scattered around the place

I bought plastic bins and a label maker. They are in my closet, individually rolled as you have done, but sorted by type and stacked out of the way.

There's no reason to have them mounted this way unless you're constantly using them, that's prime real estate being occupied by unused cables!

I am a mess in every aspect of my life and at this point, I'm just accepting it.

I use a tote bag. When it's full, I use an other one.

They either go into my box of cables or get thrown out

Right now, big ol' bag. Video cables at the bottom with USB and Ethernet cables separated in two smaller bags on top. Plan is to eventually get more drawers and make some of these dividers https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3559789 but I have a feeling I'll never get round to it.

Here is what I came up with. Photo keepers that come in a storage box. They also fit 3.5inch HDD perfectly.

Used daily: desk

Used weekly: desk drawer

Used monthly: in a bag in the outside cabinet

Else: the box in the shed

Else else: dumpster

This is how I do it:

• I am using stackable euro container to store most of my stuff, I have one dedicated to cables.
• I have a bunch of documents zipper pouches that I use for organization in these containers, so I organized my cakes using these
• then I have a stack of Velcro cable ties to spool.the cables in the pouches.
