A Pizza with the radius z and the height a has the volume V= Pi×z×z×a

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How do my pineapple chunks factor into the height?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

For each piece of pineapple where nea is height of a cone, p is radius of a cone and le equals 1/3, volume is Pi * nea * p * p * le.

You understand now why people don't like pineaaples on their pizzas?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

The only reason people like pineapples in pizza is because they make cum taste better

That must be from a Christian homeschooling textbook

It’s really difficult to calculate circumference when the earth is flat.

π ✟ π = 10

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The bible says π is 3, so they wouldn't get it this wrong.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And the Lord spake, saying, ''First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

Unexpected Monty Python

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

So the answer is Jesus. Y'know, because "he's the answer to everything?"

So happy to be atheist now ..

[–] [email protected] 55 points 1 year ago (3 children)

It's to make the numbers simple because they aren't important, the methodology is

[–] [email protected] 52 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I get that, it's like rounding gravitational acceleration (on earth) to 10...

But why don't they just use 3, preceded by a "pi is a little more than 3, but for now we'll round down to 3."

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 year ago (10 children)

Especially given that using π=3 is accurate enough for most daily use by ordinary people for ordinary things.

Sure, until you actually need the correct result of the circumference of a circle and think pi is 5.

Misinformation is education. Welcome to the future.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Like, at least make it 3 instead of 5. Still allows for mental math

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's fucking pi. It's a constant that will never change in their entire lives, just teach reality the first time instead of making up a thousand little lies to correct later.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

thousand little lies

What do you mean there are more than 3 states of matter?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Wait until they start to learn about quantum foam and super fluids.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (9 children)

Gotta cut it off at some point though, right? How many decimals? 10, 4, 1, or 0?

Plus, this is a test not the knowledge delivery. Some thing as 'assume a flat plane with no friction' for a physics test. Yeah it's not 100% accurate but the test taker can be evaluated on the methods

This is what we get when we cater to the dumbest kids in the class.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

The dumbest kids in class can't handle algebra.

It's a really bad question for all sorts of reasons. Firstly because they defining π as 5 (it's not even close to the real value) and they never explain what h is.

Also you should probably just use letters everywhere at this point and not use π unless π equals π.

No child left behind = every child left behind.

Then let's teach kids to use Wolfram Alpha.

"One! Two! Five!" "Three sire!" "Three!"

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Not necessarily. Calculating the flotation of a cylindrical pontoon using pi=5 will leave you with a boat that sinks!

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

So it's like a baker's dozen?

[–] [email protected] 33 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's called rounding, honey. Look it up

[–] [email protected] 55 points 1 year ago (3 children)

That's a hell of a rounding 😅

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep, it's the secret strategy of rounding to five. Not to a multiple of five, but just five.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

60% of the time, it works everytime.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago
[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

In base five it’s fine!

Well that's a read and a half. I never expected something like that to happen

At that point just make pi 1 for even easier calculation

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Your conditions are nonsensical, therefore the answer must also be nonsensical.

V = A sculpture of Tom Selleck made out of scalloped potatoes.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I would prefer David Hasselhoff made out of hasselback potatoes.

My math teacher back in school blew my mind once with this:

"If you ever get a funny number like 6.28318530717958647 just divide that by π and see if that fixes it. It equals 2, so the answer isn't 6.283... it's just 2π and that's how you should write your answer. Sometimes you get 1.0471975 well guess what? π/3. Simple. Pi isn't a variable, it is a number and you can just leave it in that form for your answers."
