Not many people are aware of Ingersoll's work as a counter-apologist and vocal critic of Christianity at the end of the Nineteenth Century. His analysis of the religion and its origins as well as criticisms of its practitioners remains relevant today.

His Some Mistakes of Moses is amazing, detailed, sometimes scathing, sometimes downright hilarious. I believe he was a preacher's kid and may have went to seminary himself before he went the other way, so he definitely knew his shit. Sadly, his life was one that ended way too soon.

I will add, that if you like this book, Thomas Paine's Age of Reason part II is very similar, though around 100 years older.
