Very cool, and the best part is that these platforms aren't directly competing because here I am posting about it on Lemmy. It's fascinating that the Fediverse can evolve in a way that doesn't shed users.

So Piefed absorbed a lions share of the lemm.ee refugees it looks like?

[-] [email protected] 16 points 3 days ago

that checks out, the closure announcement was made on the 4th of june

in the meantime blahaj also opened a piefed instance, so some of the new users came from blahaj

[-] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

Lemmy.zip opened up piefed.zip as well.

I'm on piefed.ca! Love to see Piefed gaining traction. It's a much better experience.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

Yup i’ve started using a piefed account to complement my lemmy one. As more featured become fully compatible with voyager and the ability to turn downvotes off becomes a thing on piefed I think I’ll make a complete switch.

I don’t think they bring much and a lot of the most “hivemind” behaviours are linked to downvotes.

Someone having a shitty opinion just shows as 0 upvotes anyways so has the same effect.

Plus having downvotes disabled conditions me to basically ignore shitty takes instead of downvoting them and often replying which IMO has made my lemmyverse experience better.

Also, it makes me a little less worried to post what I truly think without conforming to other people’s stuff. Since I don’t care if I get downvoted.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Ty for the insight! I suppose it just makes the experience generally less confrontational.

Lemmy.zip got 800 new accounts, so I'm not sure: https://lemmy.zip/post/42743443

[-] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago

For some reason I can't view the image anymore, even tho a while ago it worked.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

I updated the link, it should work now

I'm one of the migrants of Lemm.ee that moved to Piefed. This is what is great about federation and open protocols as a whole.

I also have a Pixelfed account. "What the hell does that have to do with anything?"- you may ask. Nothing. But some people do mix them up.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago

I must say, my all feed is notoriously different between my old lemmy account and piefed, the later one being better.

Also I stopped seeing propaganda from my country since here I can actually block the propaganda instances and domains, funny how that works and no wonder it will never be possible on lemmy.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Okay, maybe I just got it wrong but for the longest time I thought that piefed is an instagram-replacement, not a reddit-replacement?

[-] [email protected] 23 points 3 days ago

you're thinking of PixelFed

[-] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

I did think of that!!! Thank you!

[-] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

IMO, its like reddit / Lemmy, plus a bunch of cool usability features.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

PieFed looks to me a hybrid of Reddit and BlueSky in early state, with greater accessibility. API is very similar to Lemmy's so heres hoping it will have 1:1 mobile apps

[-] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

Why BlueSky? It doesn't really have microblogging.

it will have 1:1 mobile apps

Voyager started supporting it Interstellar does as well.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Probably because lots of things are blue.

Just FYI, piefed and the community has a LOT of awesome ui themes that you can use.

Thank you for finding it back!

[-] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

So it tripled in size? Noice.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Oooh I was JUST about to make an account then slrpnk came back up. I might make one anyway bc I heard it has scheduled posting, right?

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago
[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I thought there were more of us than that 🫡

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Doing my part!

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

yeah, I joined piefed as a Lemm.eegrant, and I doubt I would have done so otherwise.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Welcome!

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.

And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome 🤟😁
