The article is wild - apparently these salmon companies hired ex-military to literally stalk environmental activists, even going as far as placing GPS trackers on thier cars and creating fake social media profiles to infiltrate activist groups.

That's kind of naive. Information collected can be sophisticatedly altered.

This is Western Democracy. Anyone who threatens that narrative will quickly find themselves through a very dark looking glass.

A loner with no friends or social activities, visits a website known for radical communist sentiment. That won't play well in media.

Sure you can do similar for anyone. But the media would have an easy time turning you into a public enemy.
