Information Overload: Day 23 of Lather Games

  • Brush: Declaration Grooming Washington Blood of Kings B3
  • Razor: Atelier Durdan – Horizon $ARTISTCLUB $ADJUSTABLE $CNC
  • Blade: Feather Professional
  • Lather: Southern Witchcrafts – Autumn Ash
  • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts – Autumn Ash
  • Fragrance: Southern Witchcrafts – Autumn Ash

Theme justification: Scent notes: Maple, spice, smoke, amber, cedar, oud, rain, plum, blackberry, ash, birch tar, pumpkin, coffee, dirt, mildew

Autumn Ash was one of my first love-on-first sniff soaps, and now it's a cherished treasure to be used sparingly. It has 15 scent notes, that really tell a story of warm, sweet, smokey autumn.

One pass ATG with the Horizon on 4 went very well. This razor feels really smooth, and by now (third use) I've got the angle locked in and an don't need a lot of cleanup work. This razor goes on the to-buy list for me. Innovation in safety razors is rare, and this mechanism is novel, simple, and functional.

Theme: Scent notes for Phantom of Kyiv (12):

Initial note: hazelnut, lemon, orange, lime
Heart note: cedar, clove, rose, lily of the valley
Final note: oak, pine, patchouli, eucalyptus

Challenge: Busted out the MMOC for the single pass challenge. Unsurprisingly I had great (DFS+) results. Once you get the hang of it, this is one efficient and comfortable razor.

$SELFCARE - I took a sick day from work today mostly just because I've been feeling overwhelmed and that this position/company isn't right for me. It was nice to take a slower day. I also spent some time looking at job postings to start seeing what's out there right now.

$FOF - Phantom of Kyiv is a mostly bright scent. I pick up a soft mix of orange, lemon, rose, and pine. It feels fresh and a little floral, with a nice lightness to it.

Next, I layered on Tres Matres, which adds more complexity while still keeping things bright. It has notes like pink grapefruit, green mango, yuzu, bergamot, aldehydes, elemi, freesia, jasmine, cedarwood, and sandalwood. The citrus and light woods create a nice balance between the fresh vibe of Phantom of Kyiv and the darker scent that comes after.

Finally, I finished with Varen. It’s deep, green, and earthy, with lots of oakwood and a damp forest feel. It really grounds everything and shifts the whole blend in a darker, more intense direction.

Felt good. Smelled pretty good. Not sure why I chose LLP during a heat wave, but applied lightly it's really pretty pleasant.

June 23, 2025

  • Brush: Thäter Faux Ivory 29mm 2-band Silvertip
  • Razor: Filarmonica 13 Novodur 13/16" Para Profesionales Full Hollow
  • Lather: PannaCrema - Nuàvia Nero - Soap
  • Post Shave: PannaCrema - Nuàvia Nero - Balm
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner
  • Fragrance: Initio - Paragon - Eau de Parfum

1 pass. Face lather. Good shave.

PannaCrema Nero has more than 10 fragrance notes:
Amber, Tonka Bean, Artemisia, Bergamot, Vanilla, Lavender, Cardamom, Patchouli, Cinnamon, Mandarin, Salt Water, Black Pepper, White Musk, Sandalwood, Jasmine

I probably should have chosen Pannacrema Verde, but went with Nero which is more woody and spicy.

Paragon complements Nero well as it is also a woody and spicy scent containing lavender, bergamot, cinnamon and black pepper in common.

I did do a 1-pass shave today. The result was pretty good, but I used a freshly honed razor to give me the best chance at this result. While my shave result was not as close as my normal 2-pass pattern, what I missed the most was the extra time it takes me to do a normal shave and enjoy whatever setup I've picked for the day.

Quintidi 5 Messidor an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Mulet

This rose soap is really good, and it is getting better every time I use it. I don't know exactly how this works, but it is what it is.

Have a good night!

June 23rd, 2025: Information Overload

  • Brush: Omega - Bambino Boar
  • Razor: Yates Precision Manufacturing - Merica
  • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
  • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Twice as Spice - Soap
  • Post Shave: Old Spice - Original - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Old Spice - Classic - EdC

Daily Theme Justification: Wholly Kaw Twice as Spice - Notes: Orange, Cinnamon, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Lemon, Carnation, Cedar, Ambergris, Clove, Jasmine, Frankincense, Nag Champa, Clary Sage, which is 13 total.

Daily Theme: I got this soap from u/Cowzilla3 about a year and half ago through a Spice Off PIF. I have try and salvage an Old Spice shave since I went nautically themed on "Where Did All the Rum Go?" day. Everybody here is far too relaxed for having been put a list, we should all be panicking. (Cowzilla take me off, I am one of the good guys.) Anyway, a true nice and spicy software day. I haven't smelled this soap in quite a long time and it is much better than I remember. The downsides of having a noob nose.

Daily Challenge: Instead of going for true aggressiveness (like a Blackbird OC) in a one pass shave, I opted for mild and efficient. The Merica fits that bill perfectly. A touch of blade feel, but not too much razor. It did just fine with one pass and fulfilled today's challenge perfectly.
