There's two things you gotta click through and then you have to type in your homeserver yourself.

it was able to accept matrix.im for me and give me a login prompt but I dont have credentials to test it.

sounds like an issue at matrix.im and not with the client though? I assume your credentials work at matrix.im and that's why you suspect Element X?
