If I were the Democrats, I would be campaigning on a platform of “Any Public Assets sold during this presidency will be compulsorily acquired by Eminent Domain and returned to the Public when they regain power.

This will reinstate public faith in the Party and also devalue this presidency’s fundraising grifts.

The corporate and foreign interests will challenge it in court, supreme Court and win. The capture of the SC and lifetime appointments was half of the chess game. Until the public gets better information and educated they won't hear about this. Dems not the solution, has to be more radical.

We're now veering well into "when peaceful change is made impossible, violent change is inevitable" territory for an increasingly large swath of Americans. The only question is when instead of school shootings it will be corporate arson and industrial sabotage, more assassinations, kidnappings...it will get bad.

Don't really know what to say... The internal policies were bound to catch up to the external ones.

I mean, work life and home life often end up mixing together even for the most professional of individuals, let alone for the current US administration that loves to shit where it eats.

Cmon, that’s easy. Just follow the orangeboi tactic that is working so well for them. Just tell the courts “fuck you, make me” and do it anyways.

Public land can only be sold once. Shitty short term gains that'll make trump's friends rich, and everyone else will suffer.

Grift, grift, grift, see the trump family wealth grow!

Why is that?

What prevents the (hopefully) eventual non-fascist government that will have to clean up this mess from saying “yeah, all that illegal shit? Not valid. Executive order ctrl+z, as an official act of the office of the President”? And when a court that was packed by the previous regime tries to halt it, use the orangeboi tactic of “fuck you, make me”?

  1. Once land is developed it's expensive to undo.
  2. Whoever bought the land will have legal rights, it's a pretty fair argument to say "I bought this fair and square from the govt., it's not my fault the fat orange guy does stupid things".
  3. Money.

Here's an example from the UK where a planned railway line has been cancelled by a successive opposition govt.

Last year, a transport minister said no land would be sold until the government had decided on an alternative 50-mile railway line. The Independent understands detailed future plans for phase 2 land will be released in the summer by the DfT.

Surplus land will then be sold, with previous owners getting the first chance to buy - but at the current market value, instead of what they sold it for.

Note the bold bit, land usually goes up in value over time and I doubt the UK govt. will have over paid, therefore original owner may not be able to afford it in the future.

Can someone more knowledgeable that I say where this bill stands; I know it’s passed the house, but does that mean contacting my congressman is moot? Or will the bill be amended by the senate and need to be voted in the house again?

[-] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

It passed the house and is under debate in the Senate. Call your rep and both senators; they all still have power because the Senate unlikely to pass the exact language the house did

Thank you. While I’m sure a phone call to all three is warranted, wouldn’t it be a safe bet for those of us in California that both senators will be staunchly opposed?

Its likely that both California senators will be opposed, but calling them and leaving a voicemail is quick and easy
