I don't disagree with the opinion, but where do we go? If Firefox goes down the forks do too, Chrome/Chromium has a monopoly on almost all other browsers, we're stuck between two turd sandwiches as far as I know.
I had the same question, so I asked the fediverse - https://sh.itjust.works/post/40368829
No reason why the forks can't continue their own independent development. If they do disappear, I guess I'll use a webkit-based browser, or maybe a Gemini browser that also does http.
Eh, kinda pointless article rant. OK, Firefox is dead to you due to some recent bad decisions they've made. I don't disagree.
But that's it, end of opinion. Chrome is way worse. Grabbing a firefox fork doesn't fix all your complaints. Might fix their T&C issue, but not the dropping of features.
Chromium? Puh-leeze. You're trusting google to behave in an un-google fashion. It's still going to phone home and upload all your data. Downstream fork that claims privacy and security? I have doubts.
At this point it's all a browser garbage fire. Just because one is getting more rancid doesn't make the alternatives any more appealing.
What is your opinion on Vivaldi?
It's still using the Blink engine, so it only provides an illusion of competition just like all other Chromium-based browsers.
If the web becomes nothing but Chromium, then Google can dictate web standards as they see fit.
And don't count on Apple to save you, either. WebKit's monopoly over browsing on iOS is slowly being eroded by anti-trust rulings. The first browser most people will install when they have a choice is Google Chrome.
Ditching Firefox entirely because of a few missteps by Mozilla is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
WebKit?
Hard agree
Orion for Linux is much needed
