You can just lure them inside with wet food!

We saw this absolutely SCRUNGLY little thing with a paw on our back door, but she bolted when she saw us. I lured her out of hiding with some wet food and a bowl, giving her small amounts at a time and gradually moving it closer to our back porch. She was entirely too young and hungry to be outside (she ate 2 whole cans of wet food at once. Even our fattest of cats are satisfied with one), so we made a plan to trap her. The trap turned out to not be necessary as she got bold after a week and let me sit with her and even pet her a bit! She did get startled and slash me up a little bit (rabies shots are ASS) but she is a sweetheart. Since she kept coming to the door we decided to quarantine our other cats and open it and lure her in with food. It eventually worked and we have her quarantined in the bathroom for now. Sadly we already have 5 cats and their politics are already complicated enough, but we found her a forever home with someone who will spoil her rotten.

Bonus Pic after a few days in the bathroom. It's crazy how much more comfortable she looks, and she's absolutely gorgeous.

Gorgeous? Oh, she knows.

My 4 cats are all free*, i didn't pick them, they pick me.

* there's no initial payment needed, but spaying, vaccination, foods, litter, and medical fees are all not free, so please consider that when adopt one if you live with someone.

Real. I would've walked out empty-handed and achieving nothing if i were to adopt one from shelter, my choice paralysis will hold me back so much.

[-] Noodle07@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

My last cat jumped on me when I entered the shelter, easy pick

Being found by a dog via that method isn't far off, then. I volunteered at a local "no kill" shelter for emotional shoring up after a messy split that tanked a growing venture (FYI [I found out weeks into the term] : they don't, but the sites they ship them to most certainly do), and came home with one who'd end up being my fuzzy rock, my guardian shadow, my everything for 14 incredible years. You are missed, my faithful samurai hound, and I hope you have all the deer you can race. 💙

Though we got her from a shelter, one of ours definitely picked us. We were cuddling a different kitten who looked extremely similar, and she was making a huge racket from her kennel. There was a post-it note on it that said “HOLD” so we assumed someone was coming back for her, but since she was yowling so much, we asked what it meant. The staff didn’t know; one of them went to find out, came back and tore the post-it note off the kennel. So of course we asked if we could hold her. She snuggled up to me and licked my chest immediately. So of course we adopted both of them. Funny enough, she is now 99% my husband’s cat.

They can sense the weakest link. She has her attendant, and you were allowed to live. Pray she doesn't alter it further.

My two cats just appeared out of nowhere one day.

The Cat Distribution System

That's just assholes intentionally neglecting to spay or neuter their pets. It's something we should feel terrible about

[-] bright_side_@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago

I feel like this is something between a woosh and an overreaction. 😅

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

Eh, it's a bit of an overreaction, but I hate people being cutesy over something that's really pretty terrible for the animals

[-] bright_side_@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

That I can totally see, it's a shame that it happens at all. great they adopted the cat though, warms my heart ☀️

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

Absolutely. Great individual action in a pretty shit situation.

[-] blackjam_alex@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I know about that dude. Someone abandoned them at the front of my house.

Maybe it's more like recycling, though? 🤷🏽‍♂️

The humans & their dwellings (food included) are free.
Cats can freely choose them & take over.

Such a pretty little gremlin 😍

Family had a former feral dumpster gremlin that was real aggressive at first - turned out a really badly broken tooth was the cause. Once the pain from that was gone, quite the sweet cat

There were 4 strays kittens living on my patio after the resident stray momma gave birth out there a few months ago.

People have taken all but 1 since they've gotten old enough to start venturing out on their own. But they did leave me the fuzziest one.

[-] bright_side_@lemmy.world 12 points 10 months ago

Just want to leave you with appreciation from a stranger in regards of your effort in making sure she's OK and taken care of in the future. ❤️

[-] Landless2029@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Did you know the hoomans have wet food and warms?

The human assignment system is working

[-] promitheas@programming.dev 6 points 10 months ago

Ive read the comments, and I love you as a human so much for helping the kitties (and the way you talk about them is hilarious)!

[-] DrunkAnRoot@sh.itjust.works 6 points 10 months ago

i got like 6 from this 100% recomend to use before its patched

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Looks like my cat. Is she as much a drama queen as mine?

[-] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

As she has gotten more comfortable, she will SCREM for attention. Also your cat kind of looks like my bitch kitty! Same judgemental face.

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah, she wanted food (way too early). I didn't respond to her screaming, so she thought: maybe I will get his attention when I lay down right in front of his mouse and keyboard, as that dumb hooman only has his attention there.

"So you see me now, hooman? I REQUIRE FOOD! OBEY ME SLAVE!".....

"Pleeeeeaaase? Look at how sweat I am" (puss in boots eyes and purring)

"NOOOOOOW"

"I'm not angry, I'm just deeply disappointed."

And this in loops, while constantly pushing her ass in my face and pressing completely newly discovered key combination shortcuts even computer scientists never heard of. (unable to undo)

quarantined in the bathroom

What does this mean?

Just let her go outside again and eventually she'll always be with you. No need to force her to be inside.

[-] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Cat deaths by cause 2017 Outdoor cats (house pets as well as feral cats) are by far the largest cause of human-related mortality in North American birds. Link

Not to mention the average lifespan of an indoor cat is 3x longer than that of an outdoor cat.

Free roaming outdoor cats are more likely to be hit by cars, have health complications, be attacked by wildlife, or be harmed by humans.

Don't let your cats free roam outside. Domestic cats are pets and they deserve love and warmth and safe playtime.

[-] x00z@lemmy.world -3 points 10 months ago

Most people on this cats community are extremely selfish.

Cats are outdoor animals. That's just a fact.

And I'm sure you give no fucks about the birds or other animals, or are you vegan like me?

[-] TonyTonyChopper@mander.xyz -1 points 10 months ago

outdoor animals

All animals can live outdoors. Doesn't mean we should be releasing more predators for no reason

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago
[-] TonyTonyChopper@mander.xyz -1 points 10 months ago

No. No. YOU have an awful argument.

[-] x00z@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Keeping animals inside is cruel. Animals should be free, or at least be able to go outside a LOT, especially cats.

Anything else is just your selfish control over another living being. You don't deserve that. And using the predator argument is stupid because you don't give a fuck about the birds and mice. You just use that argument to justify your ownership and control over the cat. The truth is you'd rather keep it inside than giving it the chance to run the fuck away from you. If you care about not having "another predator" outside, go vegan and save the hundreds or even thousands that were raised in cages and murdered for your enjoyment. Because that's what I'm doing.

Plus, a cat that hunts for enjoyment is a product of the bad parenting of their human guardians. It's a lot more common in cats that are neglected and almost non existent in cats that are cared for a lot. It's a difference of weekly vs every few years.

If you are scared about your cat being ran over by a car, you shouldn't be having a cat because it implies you live in an area that is too dangerous for them anyways.

Don't imprison your cat. It's awful. Stop being selfish and respect the animals by allowing them to be free.
