They're from an Mbin instance, maybe that's why?
Is the kbin/mbin a known issue by chance? I would assume that going by user ID would work no matter the originating location, but maybe posts load differently than saved profiles.
I'm going to see if there is another user from the same instance that I can use to see if it is instance related. Thank you for the possible cause to look into.
Edit: so after further testing if the user comments on lemmy.world it is hidden, but their comments from other instances (checked their comments on dbzero and .ml when blocked/not blocked) show up. Blocks of other users appear to be successful across instances, so it looks like it could be the kbin/mbin federation. At least the block partially works!
something doesn't seem to be right there. i can reproduce it with this comment but not with other comments they created. also, the comment doesn't show up on their profile.
yay, database inconsistencies.
looks like kbin.earth has a broken setup at some point where their user profiles were using http instead of https urls and that results in random breakage in lemmy:
Oh lol, is that still a problem?
i think it was just never cleaned up after you fixed it on your end.
merging accounts together is rather painful afaik. there are a total of 15 users or so with http://kbin.earth/ actor ids in our db :/
Well, sorry about that again. Really Lemmy should have never let it happen though.
Looks like it was about 10 months ago based on this user's most recent time stamp on their profile comments in lemmy.world.
Thank you for checking on it. Maybe I can find their duplicate account and block that too.
I can see all of their comment on the post, there are at least four or five. I wasn't paying attention to whether those specific comments were in their profile though.
Check five or six comments, only the lemmy.world ones were blocked correctly.
Blocking instances doesn't block the users from that instance. It only blocks the communities/posts on those instances.
If you actually blocked just the user, then IDK. From the text it makes it sound like you blocked the instance itself, tho.
Yeah, I know. This was a case of a single user who was blocked, but showing posts external to lemmy.world (my instance) but successfully blocking on the home instance. MrKaplan looked into it and there was a sync issue with their instance and the user had duplicate records at lemmy.world so I had to block both.
Interesting... Now I am wondering if some of the blocked users I've been seeing again is because of that same problem and not just because I switched apps recently. I was under the impression that perhaps my block list was specific to Jerboa and not actually added to my Lemmy profile universally.
When I did a search by user in settings after MrKaplan's reply I saw they were listed twice with the same instance/name. Added the second one too and now there are two Blocked entries and all comments blocked.
