Part of me hates that this is happening.

The rest of me is all, “It’s still 2025!! If we have the Bell Riots now we’re still on-pace for a Star Trek future!!”

I hope we survive WW3 and the eugenics war.

Me too, I hope my child survives the seemingly inevitable wars that are looming within his lifetime.

But more importantly, I think Humanity will survive. This is a test, one that evolution makes impossible to avoid. If we survive this trial by fire, we will scatter and thrive amongst the stars and prepare for the next test.

Am I being too dreamy? It’s all Star Trek’s fault. :)

    Don't forget Ireland's reunification.

Riots in N. Ireland right now (though it's anti-immigration riots, so probably won't lead to unification):

One thing always leads to another.

As a descendant of the Irish, I completely believe that a totally unrelated argument could snowball into Irish Reunification.

The Bell Riots were in September 2024.

Our universe's lack of Eugenics Wars in the 90s was already pretty strong evidence that we're not living in the prime timeline.

Oh we are getting a Star Trek Future—the mirror universe one.

I'd rather not given what comes between. Can we instead get the future of the civilization in Strange New World's pilot episode? They got the advantage of learning from the mistakes Earth made before they did the same and leapfrogged into the better stuff.

Go on memory-alpha and look up what's scheduled to happen in 2026.

Wow, they expected genetic engineering to move way faster.

Now I'm not finding that youtube video about a guy not being mugged because the sci-fy story of the mugger happens too early and he can't believe in it...

Just attribute the minor differences to the temporal cold war 👌

Not really. Honestly, the "sanctuary cities" were humane compared to what the Trump Administrating is trying to do.

And now he's wanting to put on a massive military parade, something only the Terrans (and other dictatorship/fascist regimes) would do

I bet I could put on an awesome democratic military parade. Give awards to whichever group built the best float around their tank. March the color guard intermingled with the local high school color guard. Have the infantry throw candy to the crowd. Let the marching band rock out.

But I agree that, in general, military parades are not a good look.

I don't like candy coating what a military is.

It's a nation's group of killers that should only be seen in case of a dire emergency, when killing tons of people is somehow the lesser evil in a given scenario.

Asking them to toss beads and rock out is a waste of resources at best, propaganda at worst.

I've been telling a friend about this. He doesn't watch Star Trek but when we're looking at what batshit crazy thing happened each week I keep tossing in... "right on track for The Bell Riots".

But don’t we need to be treating the unemployed as criminals first?
