Migrating from Lemm.ee (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 2 days ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Hi! I run a small synthesizer community on Lemm.ee, which is unfortunately going the way of the dodo the end of June. I'm trying to find out what my options are for migrating content. As I understand it (my understanding is minimal, really) I can't actually move my community to anywhere else.

I have also heard that the content will still be accessible due to the nature of Lemm.ee, but I don't see how I can make my new account here a moderator of that community. At least the instructions I find online don't see to work for my case. Maybe it's viewable, but no longer editable? I can't find any reliable information.

I'm sad to see Lemm.ee go. It was my home since the API fiasco with Reddit a couple of years back and has always been a supportive and very open instance. My minimal amount of research led me here as a suitable replacement. I'm also from Eastern Canada! Haven't lived there in a while, but it's always a part of me.

You will have to make a new community here if you want to stay on Lemmy. You can make a post linking to it before lemm.ee shuts down.

Piefed allows community migrating and has other features but more limited app support presently. But it can be viewed from Lemmy.

Edit: I would like to see a Synthesizer community on here. We have [email protected]

OK! We weren't super active, so it shouldn't be too difficult to just recreate what I had there. I'm happy to see a production community already here. There's understandably a lot of overlap. ๐Ÿ˜„

Basically, find the piefed.social copy of your community and then look for the 'move to piefed.social' link in the sidebar.
