tl;dr

  • DLSS
  • Faster storage - MicroSD Express which is ~4-9x faster than regular MicroSD (max ~985MB/s read and ~950MB/s write)
  • 30fps cap in quality mode, or 40fps in performance mode (at 720p on the console or 1080p when docked and using a TV with 120Hz refresh rate).

I wonder what the quality is like compared to PC.

I have no issue getting 60 fps on my Steam Deck except in the newer DLC area. I want to say I’m at medium settings as far as graphics go.

Wow I didn't expect that it'd be possible to get 60fps on Steam Deck.

I've played through the Xbox Series X version of Cyberpunk 2077 twice and it ran well, but I've been interested in getting the PC version to try some mods. My desktop PC is quite old, since I don't really do any PC gaming any more and it's sufficient for everything else that I do (mainly coding). I've got a Steam Deck though!

I pulled out my Steam Deck just now to confirm because I wanted to be sure I’m being accurate.

But yeah, on low, I was able to get up to 60 but it looks like now I’m getting high 50 fps on low settings. But I remember getting 60 at some point because I remember being surprised and amazed it could handle that and for specific amounts of time! I’m wondering if a new update may have changed this. This was prior to their update with ray tracing when I was getting 60 fps.

On medium settings, I’m getting high 40 fps running about the city and even in combat. Still pretty and very stable looking at these frames.

This is all outside of the DLC area, where I got much less before.

The Steam Deck is an amazing device! The fact it can generate these results at all is pretty amazing. I’m curious how it compares to the Switch 2 in this. It will be interesting to see someone do a direct comparison between the two.

Like saying they got it to work on any platform/console when it originally released. Wait until the Switch 2 is out before saying that game works.

Maybe I’m insane, but I would get a Switch 2 for a portable Cyberpunk that’s not running at a crazily fluctuating framerate. We’ll wait and see how it goes.

Might run better on a steam deck tbh

Have one. That's the crazily fluctuating framerate I was alluding to.

Is that in the newer DLC area? Because the other commenter in this thread is getting 60fps except the DLC area. Disclaimer, I don't have the game, so I can't help diagnose, just pointing out there might be an optimization or setting you could look into.

Idk if you've seen the digital foundry video but there are no settings on the steamdeck that make it perform comparably to the switch 2.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Steamdeck is far less powerful than the switch 2.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

You got a source for that?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

I'll answer my own question, according to this article from April, its slightly more powerful, but then only comes with 12GB of ram instead of 16gb like the steamdeck, so who knows what actual performance will be.

@lemmy_user_838586 , Steamdeck is also powered by a full Linux distro + Steam + Proton/Wine (+ KDE Plasma) in many cases. Whereas Switch has a leaner custom BSD-based system.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

There is definitely more overhead involved (mostly due to proton) but not as much as you might think. The Plasma session has no performance impact, because it isn't running when you're not in desktop mode. Being a "full Linix distro" really doesn't affect the gaming performance.

@anyhow2503 , as an old Linux and KDE user, I totally agree with you. But a custom minimal UI optimised for the specific use case and hardware (and optimised kernel) will likely consume less RAM still.

I'm looking forward to Valve releasing a more powerful Steam Deck in the coming years !

They're always good for a sequel

Probably wouldn't hold my breath for a third one though.

They made a deal with a crossroad demon.

[-] [email protected] -1 points 3 days ago

I thought it was also on switch 1? Though it ran like shit.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

No, but it was on PS4 and Xbone when they couldn't really handle it.
