rock climbing & piano ‽!
how can you do both?
rock climbing & piano ‽!
how can you do both?
With a strong backpack to help get the piano up the wall.
seriously
one needs nimble fingers to play the piano and climbing atrophies them
I should say I only play piano for myself as a kind of therapy, I suck and I’m not playing any Sonata’s.
My biggest issue is choosing hobbies that are all based on hands, when you’ve got Dupytren’s Contracture.
The other thing is my hobbies are key to me being happy, so this state my mood is falling through the floor. I know I just need to think of the benefit afterwards but right now I’m wallowing in self pity.
may the force be with you
They never said they were good at it.
You’ve heard me play haven’t you 😉
We seem to be located in the same county, we're both software devs... I wouldn't rule it out completely.
Seems we both blaze Mary Jane too. Probably got the same dealer 😂
My plug is my grow box 😂
You forgot he also plays golf and runs while rock climbing with a piano.
I do all this whilst working as a software developer too 😂. Had to set up work PC connected to a belay.
Jesus, is that necrotized flesh on your pinky???
hope you recover man, I just got over jaw surgery for a broken jaw. finally able to eat, dropped ~20lbs in 2 weeks (its certainly one of the ways of all time to drop weight, wouldn't recommend tho lol)
Erm… I certainly hope it’s not necrosis as the nurse said all is healing well. I just think it’s intense bruising.
Thanks dude. Oof I think would rather this on all my digits than jaw surgery. That must have sucked hard.
What was the surgery for if you don’t mind me asking?
completely shattered left jawbone. happened april 29th, got surgery may 1st.
had to get 4 screws into a plate, and 4 more screws and 2 wires to hold it all in place (and my mouth shut) for 26 days. the plate and screws are never coming out, but the other 4 screws and wires came out yesterday. had A.Y.C.E sushi to celebrate. was a fun night.
all in all, broken jaw was a 2/10 experience, would not recommend.
look on the bright side tho, worst case for you, you get a cool-ass robot hand, and can make all the "yo gimme a hand here" jokes you can imagine.
Oof that sucks hard bro. Sorry you had to endure that. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain you v went through.
Wishing you a full recovery and be careful out there.
Can you explain for the uninitiated what the title means? Surgery for something, but what?
Absolutely, happy that people are curious as it can be quite rare if not from Northern Europe.
Here is a link to the NHS site giving more information about Dupytren’s Contracture.
Basically, extra tissue forms around your palmer fascia and causes it to thicken overtime and limits the range of motion for a given joint.
This is my second Fasciectomy, the first was around 15 years ago to release my ring finger on my left hand as it was flexed at around 65 degrees. This was a success and still have full movement over a decade later.
This latest one fascinated the surgeons as it’s incredibly rare to hit the pinky on the most distal joint. This joint was bent inwards at 95-100 degrees and was a real hindrance to falling when rock climbing as it would catch on a hold and could do severe damage.
Finally, on my right hand I have been able to feel a lump forming for about 8 years, but it’s a very slow process and so maybe another 10-15 years before noticeable loss of range of motion.
It originated in Viking country and this is most prevalent in Northern Europeans. And is passed down hereditary from my bio father.
