More info needed. Is it a physical game? A video game? If so, what system? Was there a code registered?
It is a steam computer game I dont even know what that is.
AFAIK once it is in your Steam library it is there for good and cannot be transferred. It can be shared, but it will always be in your library.
Edit: when you say won you mean as a prize, I initially read it as beat. So if it is a code you could give it to someone else to activate.
I didnt know that thanks, I don't have a library so it could get sent someone else's. It's confirmed I've won but I've not claimed it yet
Are first I read your post as "I beat (won) this game, but am not a gamer (so I do not want to keep it to play it again.) Does someone want to have it now?"
When you "claim" the prize it will be a "steam key".
Anyone can then use that "steam key" to add that game.
So what is normally done is someone creates a post saying the name of the game and you have a free steam key to give away, and whoever replies first, DM them the code.
On reddit there were bots that scrapped codes
On Lemmy you might be able to just post it, but whoever redeems it first gets to keep it.
Thanks what would be a good comm to do that in
Where did this come from? If a graphics card, it may be difficult to gift it.
I had this happen a short time ago where I got a new GPU and they gifted me a game I already owned and I tried giving it away on here and found that I had to run through all these time based verifications and basically only I could redeem it.
If you have just the Steam key, you can give that to someone and they can claim the game and that’s that. But you may not want to post it directly on somewhere because bots are known to roam the internet and steal them first to sell them on weird websites.
I'm assumimg you have a store key.
You could post to one of the relevant communities for game giveaaways, such as [email protected] or [email protected]
Standard practice is to pretty much just say what game you're offering, and the dm the key to a random respondent after a day or two.
Announce it, whoever wants it comments under the post, after a set date collect all the usernames, randomly select one, contact via DM.
That could be fun! What would be a good comm to do that in? One that's popular enough?
I would look into three things first:
- Do the terms of the prize dictate transferability? In the rules of the contest in which you won the game, was there anything about not selling or giving away the prize?
- What type of game is it? Video game, board game, card game?
- What is the delivery mechanism for the game? Some things will be easier to transfer than others. A physical copy can likely just be shipped to a new recipient. A digital key for a game might be easy to just send to the recipient. Other delivery mechanisms may or may not have a system to prevent transfer.
Thanks I can deffo give it away, it's steam game which means there's a key?
it’s steam game which means there’s a key?
Maybe.
If the game is already in your Steam account, no. I can't seem to run the actual policy down with a quick search, but games in your Steam library are not transferable.
If you have received a key in your email (It'll be a long, alphanumeric sequence) then you can forward that to someone else, so long as it hasn't been used by you or anyone else.
If the game was sent as a gift to your Steam account using the Steam gift system. Then no, you cannot transfer it.
Yep it's not in my library I'm waiting for the key thanks mate
