One of the comments on this that I saw was something to the effect of "It's funny and all to get one over on the CIA but you know that information being uncovered got agents killed and imprisoned?"

And like yeah, that is part of why it is so funny. The CIA has never been up to anything good for its entire existence and I won't shed a single tear for their wet works ghouls or people that collaborate with a fascist intelligence agency. Liberals in universe would literally be pearl clutching over the death of an ISB spy (and this is directly alluded to when Mon is all aghast when Cassian claps her driver even though she knows he is spying on her for the ISB).

How is the Open Source Enterprise bad?

Because it's entire purpose is to identify and exploit snitches and potential assets. OSINT is literally just a CIA recruitment tool.

I can say with 100% certainty that anything with the CIA fingerprints all over it is an inherently evil operation. Those in question were literally doing treason on their own government by directly collaborating with a hostile foreign power. The US has done the exact same thing during the cold war.

Of course in that case I support the communist sympathizers in the US but the point is you know the risks when you sell out your country.

Because it’s [sic] entire purpose is to identify and exploit snitches and potential assets. OSINT is literally just a CIA recruitment tool.

I would be interested in any evidence you have for this assertion.

Where does this prove that OSINT is literally just a CIA recruitment tool?

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

That is what the CIA does. This is relevant because this is the shit they are recruiting people to do.

The CIA is inherently evil and was founded with literal Nazis.

@[email protected] I know you are more qualified to answer this so I am taggin you in comrade.

I'm not sure if you saw the rest of this thread, but I sincerely recommend against following this guy's approach to basic communication. If you want to progress your thought or be able to articulate anything from a left-wing perspective without just looking like you have no clue what you're talking about, there are much better ways to approach it.

All I am asking you to do is substantiate a claim that you made.

The best recent resource that does a deep dive into the US's hand in open source projects, is Yasha Levine - Surveillance Valley.

Its a longer history on how and why the US developed the internet - as a counter-revolutionary surveillance and information warfare tool to aid the empire, and also how it coopts youthful/enthusiastic tech movements to aid in that goal. The later chapters get into the current phase of this, using open source tools funded by the US national security state to fight its current enemies.

Does it answer the question I asked or is it tangential anti-Americanism?

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I don't know what your question is specifically but you should never refuse to read things because it might be anti-US and you have a pro-US bias for some reason.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

lol, okay buddy.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I didn't refuse to read anything and I defy you to find anything I wrote that is a "pro-US bias". I dare you.

Why did you even come to this thread if you're not going to read it and remain willfully ignorant of what was written? It's just weird behavior. It's also hilarious that you're preemptively chastising me for not reading when you have no clue what is in the thread you're posting in. Great stuff.

Ciro Santilli, the researcher, said he was drawn to investigating the network of CIA sites for various reasons...

Ciro Santilli... Mother in law from Falun Gong, has a big story of criticizing chinese democracy, oh the irony.

The guy is practically real life Syril that didn't get shot yet.
