One UI 7 has been disastrous for me, and not just because of preferences or layout. So far, I consistently get one or more of three issues:

  1. Home button (the round square at the bottom) ceasing to function. Seems to happen when I open any app, only actually triggers the moment I tap on the three lines next to it to bring up the open applications screen.

  2. Swiping up from home screen doesn't bring up the app list. Seems to occur whenever I press the home button from the application card screen (pressing the 3 lines button). Only consistent workaround is to go to settings and press home key (which behaves as expected).

  3. Lock screen showing what is basically a screenshot of my home screen as a wallpaper, despite having an actual wallpaper. Seems to occur whenever I tap the power button with an app open, but it's inconsistent. I don't have a workaround for this, it just stops doing that randomly it seems.

these occur very frequently; I'm fighting the UI every time i want to do something. besides that, I've had other issues too; mostly minor issues (visual glitches), but one big one. Earlier today, my phone only displayed the wall paper on my home screen and nothing else; no UI elements at all. Holding down the power button brought up the power options menu (manually adjusted that setting before this occurred), but tapping any of the power options did absolutely nothing. I wasn't even able to reboot or turn off my phone, only thing that shook it out of this siezed up state was tapping the side button settings bar at the bottom of the power options screen.

This has been the buggiest mess of a UI I've ever had the displeasure of using, and that's putting aside a few of my grievances with the aesthetic changes they made to it.

For reference, I'm on a (admittedly beat up) galaxy s21FE, and I do have F-droid installed but the phone is not rooted.

For as popular as Samsung is, they sure tend to fuck up the UI quite a bit.

I've got the issue where secure folder keeps giving me notifications and if I try to go into it it just tells me I don't have a sim card. comes back every day. otherwise the switch has just been miserable and I'm spending about half the time on my phone just trying to get everything back to normal (or at least the same level of functionality. thank God for nova and klwp or id be losing my mind.

I took my phone into the carrier, they shrugged and tried to get me to buy a new phone.

All three of my bottom buttons were cooked on the update. Rebooting didn't fix. I went into safe mode, buttons worked fine. Rebooted back to normal mode and they still work fine. No idea what that's as about...

I'd suggest starting with that - boot into safe mode and see if it looks any better, then reboot back to normal mode and see if it sticks.

Seems to have worked for me as well... Hopefully it stays that way.

"...ceasing to function?"

Bad voice to text, or does 'seizing' connote a different behavior?

edit for italics

I'm on a S21 fe too and I have none of these issues. I actually have less bugs after the update than on one ui 6. Honestly I'd recommend trying a safety mode boot and checking if the issues are there too.

No issues is safety mode, at least none that I can tell. that seems to have carried over into normal usage too, somehow.

Good it's fixed then. Maybe sometime weird went in with your cache and booting into safe mode sorted it out.

Have you tried clearing the cache partition?

Welp... Haven't noticed...

But then, I've not used One UI since my first Galaxy S4... Didn't like One UI much right of the bat, so installed Nova Launcher as a replacement; decided that was much more to my liking and never looked back...

Now it's one of the first things I install on any new phone regardless of brand.

I know it's not a "solution" as such... But maybe you'd like to give it a go...?? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

didn't know that was a possibility, thank you! I'll check it out and see if I can't wash my hands of one ui for good

I'm sorry to say but one ui was not available for your s4 so how did you not like it? It only became available with the launch of the s8.

I think they confused TouchWiz and one ui. Also a lot of people here seem to think one ui is the launcher for some reason.

Welp, then I guess it was the S8 where i crossed One UI.

Whatever launcher was on the S4, I didn't like it as much as I liked Nova Launcher. ๐Ÿ™„

yeah I've got nova and klwp and theyve isolated me from a lot of the bs but not all unfortunately.

edit: someone really hates nova huh? ๐Ÿ˜‚

Oh yeah it's shit and trying to mimic Apple's look. After Mt Samsung dies I'm never getting one again.
