Plato in the Republic argued against democracy because it eventually produces leaders like Trump. Many people mistakenly believe that Trump is an aberration, the result of someone meddling with the system, but the reality is that he is an eventual outcome sooner or later as The Republic outlined more than 2000 years ago. He instead advocated for philosopher kings. The amount of progress Saudi Arabia has made in the past decade wouldn’t happen under a democracy. Now no one system is perfect, a hereditary absolute monarchy has its own weaknesses too. An elective monarchy like Malaysia might be the best of both worlds.

The article is quite interesting, nothing new to the astute observer, but given that the author is Iranian it is quite an interesting read; as they historically have looked down upon Arabs. After all the most stable Arab dynasty, the Abbasids, had Persians running the bureaucracy with the Arab caliph being a symbolic figure.
