I've looked into this, and it turns out that whilst stray dogs cannot read and write, domesticated dogs own humans that can read and write on their behalf.

This sign is therefore an attack on the upper-class echolons of dog soceity, no doubt put there by some unhinged lycanthrope seeking to limit the mobility of those of better breeds. Sad, really.

From Superman (1939) #19, page 35

Transcript:

Narration: Later... Clark enters the Planet building, accompanied by his canine friend....

Clark Kent: I wonder why they put up signs like that? Dogs can't read!

Sign: No Dogs Allowed

TBH I think this is a joke in the original and would fall under R3 but it's ambiguous so I'll leave it up. I haven't really been moderating this community much but I plan to do a bit more, since that seems to be a point of confusion.

Oh. Had no idea where this was from and probably downloaded it from Reddit's version of this community a year or two ago. Oh well, so much for trying.

Sorry, didn't mean to discourage you! Most of that comment is just because I like tracking down the source of the panels posted here so that I can read them myself (and transcribe them so they show up in future internet searches, to make it easier for other people tracking down the panels)

The bit about it possibly falling under R3 is because I consider it good modding to be verbose about this sort of thing so nobody's surprised. It's kind of annoying when you post something and it just gets removed with a terse "R3" or the like. I'm also trying to make sure to mod according to the original purpose when @[email protected] set up this community since I'm just a helper mod, so consider this modding "just doing my best" ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey you, just came by to say I applaud that approach. Verbosity and transparency is where it's at when it comes to moderation.

Thanks, appreciate hearing it!

It's all good, it's just me right now. It's good to have standards around here and I do appreciate the explanation instead of an aggressive removal, so you're already a good kind of moderator in my books. And I apologize for the tone of my response, as I say, it's just me right now.

Comic panels taken out of comics so we can make fun of them!! We love the golden age stuff!

Rules:

  1. Comics must come from actual comic books. No AI or Photoshops.

  2. Single panels are preferred.

  3. Comics should be unintentionally funny. Spider-man cracking wise is not what this is about.

  4. Don't be a dick.

  5. I can't believe I've had to add this... NO RACISM.
