Clerics Regular of Saint Jerome (Jesuati – Restored)

Welcome to the community for the restored Jesuati, formally called the Clerics Regular of Saint Jerome—a modern revival of a 14th-century lay order dedicated to prayer, simplicity, and education.

The original Jesuati were founded in 1360 and lived humbly without clergy, devoted to service and quiet devotion. We’ve restored their spirit for our time.

They were non-clerical brothers who studied, worked, and prayed in silence. The order was suppressed in 1668—but its path was never erased.

We live under the spiritual guidance of Saint Jerome, patron of study and sacred discipline, and hold deep reverence for the Blessed Virgin Mary, our model of humility, strength, and silent faithfulness.

We follow a Rule of Life shaped by:

Daily prayer, with fixed hours when possible, and silence when life demands flexibility

Personal and sacred study—Scripture, history, science, health, math, and language

Simple living—modest dress, clarity of space, readiness in body and soul

A spiritual blend rooted in Catholic tradition, Orthodox mysticism, Quaker stillness, and self-reliance

We honor the sacraments, but allow them to be received in traditional or personal ways, according to conscience.

We live quietly. Some alone. Some in contact. All equal.
