Slowly going downhill?
I think it's in freefall (but what would I know I don't go there anymore)

Slowly going downhill?
I think it's in freefall (but what would I know I don't go there anymore)
Are you going to actually tell us what they took down or just give links to a cesspool?
...Then stop posting on Reddit? I thought the whole point of us moving here was to get out of the control of Reddit and their shareholders/corporate overlords
Lemmy is the safe island everyone on Reddit knows they can go if it gets entirely unusable.
But, Lemmy is extremely political with fuckall else outside of reposted memes and selfhosting nerds, so we don't really fit the bill for Reddit's normies until they're all ready to come aboard, not that they ever will.
You can open up your own Lemmy instance and ban politics from it.
I don't personally have a problem with it, and without it, there wouldn't be much going on here.
Me either.
Skill issue.
And yet, post the information on Lemmy anyway. The normies will either find it when someone on Reddit comments that they saw it on Lemmy ("talking about X" is not copyrightable), or they'll find it on Google when it starts indexing Lemmy.
But, Lemmy is extremely political with fuckall else outside of reposted memes
Excuse me we have original memes here! Also cat pictures.
True, I don't think a lot of people I interact with on Reddit will ever move to Lemmy.
But I guess it's okay, because I am getting the stuff which Reddit won't allow so it would be like a cool shadow community.
By the way, how do you think censorship work on Lemmy? I don't have any idea if they can block stuff, like a lot of users are on Lemm.me or Lemmy.world so there mods can control a lot of posts I guess
Servers can censors you which but generally clown mods in big communities do it.
It doesn't really matter since getting banned by some shiti community for content censorship, just move to another place community.
This is the key benefit of federation, no single actor can cut another person from expressing itself on fedi, just their little fiefdom
You guys post on Reddit?
Nah just bring your posts here! Quit adding to that dumpster fire. The love and piracy is strong here.
This is the way, use reddit for info but never feed the parasite any content.
All content should be posted on fedi to seed the future of social media imho
How anyone is still on that shit hole site after what we saw two summers ago is beyond me. Every few months it’s something new, yet so many people continue to stick around.
I don’t get it. The moment I don’t feel safe on a site, I leave. If you are on Reddit, you are not safe.
im there because there's a lot of niche communities that just dont exist here, or have any active users.
There is always another pocket of the internet! Hell I’d take discord over Reddit. There is always a discord server for an interest or hobby. Discord is getting dicey as well but Reddit is so far ahead of them on the enshittification spectrum.
Discord is already prepping for an IPO so why bother putting any energy into moving off Reddit, finding, and getting involved with communities on there when it's going to be yet another shit show in fairly short order?
They already exist and it’s not as far along, as I said. And at least it doesn’t have Spez the greedy piggy. Plus a migration is way easier to plan on discord .
Discord is now run by the former vice chairman of Blizzard. That, combined with it being only "not as far along" in the enshittification process actually makes the idea of putting time and energy into finding a niche community that I can jive with on Discord less appealing than simply sticking it out with Reddit and it's known variables until something substantial forms on Lemmy or some other platform that hasn't begun severely degrading due to corporate ownership.
That's my personal opinion anyway.
Most hobby reddit communities have an associated discord, there isn't much effort needed at all. And again, reddit is objectively worse right now. If you're willing to stay there and put up with it, what's a few clicks to go to a slightly less shitty one that can more easily migrate to something like Revolt? Chances are you already have a discord account. You know how trivially easy it is to join a server.
Or fire up a community here. Get some users off reddit and get it started. I'm sure someone will gladly take up the mantle.
Because "slightly less shitty" isn't as attractive of a moniker to me as it seems to be to you when it comes to deciding which platform to switch off to.
And a subreddit having a Discord doesn't really guarantee much aside from having the same mods in charge. The userbase is invariably going to be different and may not have the same "vibe" as the subreddit. It's not really as simple as you're trying to make it out, which makes the idea of jumping off one shitty corporatized platform to another extremely unappealing.
I also don't use social media enough or have enough free time to bother attempting to form and moderate my own community, so as much as I dislike Reddit I'm content just waiting it out for something that isn't just another lame Discord server to pop-up here or elsewhere.

Lot of selective reading here
What did I apparently selectively read? I'm fairly sure I addressed most of what you said in the previous comment, but I'm on mobile so feel free to point out what I missed.
For starters, I said grab some folks to start one and that one of them will likely gladly take the reins.
I addressed that directly in my last paragraph. It seems you are the one doing the selective reading here...
You said you don’t want to moderate. I’m saying you don’t have to. If you can’t even get off your ass to spend a few minutes finding someone who’s interested in starting another community, then how much does this really matter to you? You want the problem to be solved but you don’t want to lift a finger to solve it. Frankly it’s lazy and entitled. I gave you one of the easiest temporary solutions (discord) and you complained about it. It’s all “no no no.”
Make one post. A few sentences saying that y’all should probably start a parallel community on Lemmy or some other site. It’s not hard.
You aren’t trapped on Reddit yet you basically insist you are.
You're putting a lot of words in my mouth. All I ever said was that Discord is a poor replacement and I'm reasonably content to stick with Reddit until something substantial forms here or somewhere besides Discord. I'm not obligated to form a community and just because you call me lazy and sling insults at me for that choice doesn't really change my mind on the matter, it just makes you look childish.
You're the one getting worked up, and simply for my refuting Discord as a good replacement.
Grow up.
Enjoy being the little dopamine junkie spez counts on for his bottom line! If I’m wrong then hey, it shouldn’t bother you anyway. I’m just a stranger on the Internet, what do you care?
Have a good one 👍 Last word is all yours
I think once Lemmy hits about a million active users, I'm fully ready to switch over.
That seems rather arbitrary
I'm sure the majority of reddit users either don't know or don't care about the events of two summers ago. And with reddit cracking down on more and more content...they may not even know about all of the stuff reddit is cracking down on. How long until a crackdown on posts about reddit cracking down?
So true... honestly at this point I hope it just gets worse so people jump ship to lemmy. Might be hopeful thinking that people will actually switch. But having a company control public discourse always seems to end badly. Not looking at you twitter.
Fuck Reddit. It's only going to get worse.
Haven’t been back since the API and third party app thing, and it’s amazing how much crap I was scrolling through just because it was there. Lemmy’s been great. It was really slow in the beginning, two years ago, but it continues to get progressively better. Love to see it.
Fuck spez.
When Reddit went public it was scooped up by hedgies and other nefarious actors. Slowly but surely it is changing for the worse. I just got booted from Reddit on a 9 year account (as an added bonus they nuked my other 2 accounts as well even though no posts near time of nukage) for pretty tame (compared to other stuff I have seen) stuff. I predict that Reddit will be indistinguishable from truth social within 5 years or less.
I (15 year old account) got banned not too long ago for replying to a person using information publicly listed in their reddit profile. Rule 3, aka doxxing. Idk, seemed overkill to me, what else is the point of sharing anything in ones profile if mentioning it is bannable.
I experienced similar as a paying customer there.
In today's economy paying that does NOT mean shit, it ain't like you get any rights... Really paying is a mark of a being a sucker in a parasite's eyes.
I still can't tell how we ended up here but I am guessing they dont care for the customer, just for its data.
Feels like a trap. “Yes, please voluntarily offer your personal information to our legal department.”
Ikr! That is what my thought was. I always prefer to be anonymous online and giving them all my personal info seems like a very bad idea.
Reddit gets worse every day.
All piracy, hacking and cracking communities should be on Lemmy. All NSFW communities should move to LemmyNSFW. Investors won't be happy until that site is scrubbed clean.
Thank you for posting here. :)
Oh well
