This is a cool map. Are people really just downvoting this because they don’t like sports? Get over yourselves.

People on lemmy have a weirdly intense hatred of sports, I’ve noticed.
Sports, cars, playing video games anywhere besides Steam/GoG… off the top of my head. There’s a lot of things I find people are overly zealous about on here.
The Mets don’t even dominate the zip code their home stadium is in; they don’t show on the map at all.
The Athletics don't dominate anywhere, either. Though they're nomads right now, so it isn't too surprising.
Data’s from 2014. It’s after the moneyball era, but should be before the final clash between ownership and the city over a replacement stadium that ultimately made a lot of fans sour on the team. (Or, at least, sour on the team under current ownership.)
Ah, good point. I should read the whole chart before I comment.
Not a fan of baseball but this is really cool. Are there more maps like this?
The New York Times used to do all sorts of interesting maps and graphs--

Awesome links. I would love to see the second one with updated data.

You can select areas and it will tell you the distribution. If you’re talking about the SLC area, looks like there is a mix of Red Sox and Yankee fans. No clue why the hell that is though
It seems like all the in-between areas are some mix of Red Sox and Yankees. C'mon people, pick someone else to cheer for.
It's probably because they get national broadcasts. I figured with all the Ohio transplants in the NC and Florida area Cleveland and the Reds would be higher in the no man's lands down there but same Yankees and Red Sox.
It's like how I've heard stories about Braves fans in really weird places and it's because TBS would broadcast Braves games to anywhere in the country so people grew up seeing commercials and games for the Braves their entire childhood even though they had a far more local team.
As long as it’s not the Dodgers
