It took me a while to figure out why this was a post. My laptop is a bit older, and just has a latch that pops the battery out when pulled. Then I realised laptops are being pushed the way of smartphones..

- Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
- No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
- Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Right to Repair is a big deal.
Thanks, I am just doing my part here. It was actually not hard to replace. I use lenovo ideapad laptop so idk maybe for other it might be harder to replace but this one was really straightforward. I only looked at diy instructions just to be sure I don't mess something up but really it was easy. And it was first time ever actually repairing electronics, if we do not count changing source to hdmi on a tv as a repairing electronics.
Ooo I need to do this for my old Windows 8 laptop. It has a touchscreen and I'd like to use it for a low-spec + Wayland touchscreen testing device. Unfortunately, the battery has been dead for years, and I've also lost where the laptop went D:

Hi, I'm good for how much someone with dysphoria can say they are good. Idk if you are interested but i think I might be having dpdr (depersonalization derealization disorder) or at least I have something similar to it and I don't want to invalidate someone who has it but according to my humble research it sounds like I might have it. Like my whole life i felt like i'm just a mere spectator of someone else inside their body and right now feel like it idk how to better explain it, I'm sorry I'll talk with therapist about this it just is hard being like this and I need to small vent. And nice, never used laptop with touchscreen but wish you luck at preparing yours, and I'll just say once you do something yourself, like repairing electronics you feel happy and proud of yourself, which actually means something when I say how much I'm happy I did this and I'm proud I did this myself. :)
That's real. It sounds like despite all the circumstances being bad you've settled in to a spot where you can be as good as you can be for now. It also sounds like your humble research with dpdr has been good in finding explanations for your lived experience, which I hope has a side effect that you feel less alone :) All of this plays a role into how you feel, and I appreciate the detail. no worries about the lil vent 🩷
Yesss repairing stuff feels amazing, not only do you get a sense of independence, but the computer goes through this hero's journey-like experience that you get to play a guiding hand in. At the computer's darkest moment you were able to step in and save it from death, and let it breathe once more >:3
Do you feel the power? I legit feel like I have a superpower when I breathe new life into aging devices.
Yeah, I like being able to plug my laptop of cable after being used as a desktop for months. Also I feel happy and proud actually doing something myself

A few years ago, that was the first step that led me to stop using Apple computers and slowly switch to Linux and easy to fix PCs. Something that, back then, 50 years old me would never have imagined doing: I had been an Apple user since the early 80s and never imagined not being one.
Thanks, idk never used any apple device but I heard they are not really repairable. Luckily my lenovo laptop is so straightforward with repairing, just removing screws and back cover, remove battery replace battery screw back cover.
Sometimes it really is this easy, still an accomplishment. I'm typing this using a Mac Mini which I purchased with minimal RAM, and then maxed out the RAM (64GB) as it was much cheaper that way. With this model (2018) it was necessary to remove nearly everything from the case to access the RAM. I watched the video, made notes, carefully laid out the parts as I disassembled the unit, pulled the old RAM, put in the new, and reversed the 'disassembly'. Then because I needed to do this on a second one, did the same thing again. All of this was so the home and office computers would be the same. Right to repair, like all rights, needs to be exercised.
