A new saxophone. I have been playing the sax for 15 years and have kept my beginner horn ever since. A good sax starts at 5k though, so I‘ll probably need at least 5 more years at my current saving rate

Share a story, ask a question, or start a conversation about (almost) anything you desire. Maybe you'll make some friends in the process.
RULES (updated 01/22/25)
- Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
- Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
- Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
- Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
- No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
- Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Saving for a new car. My ex wrecked mine, and it still drives but it brings too many bad memories.
saving money is its own reward
Just to make number go up at the moment. One day I'll want a new laptop but mines new now so maybe in like 5 years.
Used to save up for a house but prices are rising faster than I can save up and soon I'd be in debt for the rest of my life if I did buy one.
So now I'm just saving up so I won't have money troubles living a simpler life. Small rented apartment, don't have to worry about not having enough money to buy food or pay the bills. Can spend a certain amount on entertainment and other leisure each month and I have a sizable buffer in case I become unemployed.
I know mate. Times are hard right now
Gotta run PEX piping to replace the copper we've got so I can remove the oil water heater so we can also remove the oil furnace and convert to electric (not logic to replace the furnace if we need to keep the reservoir because of the water heater) then we can start fixing cracks in our foundation walls so we can insulate them, as long as we're done with that before next winter I'll be satisfied.
So yeah, anyone's got 15k?
Fucking hell nightmare being an adult socks sometimes
At least I'm doing some of it myself to save on labor 🤷
I'm genuinely impressed mate I had to post in [email protected] asking how to put pictures up haha
Yeah, growing up in a family where we would tear down walls the day after moving in certainly helps, but there's tons of things that are easy to learn when it comes to doing home maintenance and improvements!
I've got my rainy day fund which I only touch in true emergencies. I'm also saving to go to LA in November! Tickets are bought, but not paid for lodgings etc
I hope you don't get deported lol. I've always wanted to visit the US, parts of it at least. Seems pretty scary right now though.
I have my eye on a guqin. I'll never be able to play one, but they look gorgeous and I'd want one as a decoration for my wall.
The new neverending fuckery that most of my shithead neighbors voted for.
Just put down the closing costs for a house. So saving to replenish savings for a bit.
Nothing in particular. Mostly, it’s for early retirement and partly just for “fuck-you money.” I pretty much own everything I’ve ever wanted, and anything I don’t have, I could buy if I really wanted to. I make a decent living and live below my means. I invest a good portion of my income into ETF index funds every month, and I’m at a point where my passive income matches - or even exceeds - what I’m able to save from wages.
I’m self-employed nowadays, and whenever business is slow, I don’t have to stress about it because of my savings. Time is my most valuable asset, and anytime I get to do something other than work counts as a positive in my book. That said, I don’t really mind working anymore either, because what I do for a living is pretty much what I’d be doing anyway.
I guess you could say I save so that I don’t have to stress about finances.
Nothing right now. Just maintenance for now. Nothing really excites me, a mood that's been around for a while.
A (likely secondhand) PS5 because a game I really want, Digimon Story Time Stranger, releases this year! That's my biggest goal right now, but aside from that there's also some albums and Tamagotchi I want to buy eventually haha
Honestly I have no idea. Save as much as I can, invest spend, HYSA the rest. I suppose eventually a house in like 15 years? maybe retirement eventually?
not sure and honestly kind of falling in love with the idea of micro-retirements so maybe i'll spend it on that?
