Made some progress on my Shaving Data System project. Now it's more secure and requires a login to log SOTD's. I also fixed some functionality with SOTD picture links - if you include one it gets formatted to a markdown link, and if you don't include one it just prints the date.

This shave went pretty well! @[email protected]'s edge felt nice and I can sense my skillz improving. Closeness still isn't quite there, but I'm armed with the knowledge that that'll come with time.

What passes are you doing for your straight shaves right now?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

I'd say nothing really different than what I've figured out works for DE's, except for my lower neck... DE's give me irritation going north-to-south on my lower neck, and it seems the opposite is true with straight razors. I found out "early on" that north-to-south is better with a straight. Now that I'm 7 or 8 shaves in maybe I'll try south-to-north again and see if my skillz allow it.

  • Brush: Chisel & Hound Malachite - Oumo Rorschach 26mm badger
  • Razor: Koraat โ€“ Moarteen (15/16", full hollow) (1)
  • Lather: Stirling - I, Rich Moose
  • Post: Stirling - I, Rich Moose Aftershave splash
  • Post: Ginger's Garden - Unscented Aftershave balm (+menthol)
  • Frag: SIR - Irisch Moos EdT

Today was my first shave with the Moarteen, as well as my first ever straight razor shave. Talk about a different skill!

The shave went mostly fine. I only did WTG + XTG on my face and WTG + WTG on my neck. Unsurprisingly, I'm not as close as I usually am after a safety razor shave, especially under my chin, but there's practically no irritation. I reopened a cut from a previous shave and nicked myself on a mole near my jawline, but otherwise, no blood!

Probably the most difficult part of this shave was figuring out how to hold the razor for different parts of the shave. I have no intuition for how the way I'm holding the razor will translate to my face (if that makes sense). I'm definitely looking forward to developing that intuition and just some comfort with the open blade.

Also my first shave with this brush and soap. The Rorschach knot has a nice scrub to it, without being poky. Very good density. Thanks u/wallygator88 for the passaround!

I, Rich Moose smells great and performed just as well as Stirling always does. Thanks, u/jwoods23, for the smush. It seems this frag doesn't burn my face, so I'm in for the Sheep Moos!

  • Brush: AP Shave Co G5C
  • Razor: Chiseled Face Legacy Brass
  • Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
  • Lather Ariana & Evans - Rive Paris
  • Post Shave: Ariana & Evans - Rive Paris

Probably the worst shave Iโ€™ve had in recent memory. Couldnโ€™t get the lather going with this (100% skill issue) but the splash really lit me up with frag burn. Bummed because the scent is great.

  • Brush: Zenith โ€“ r/Wetshaving exclusive MOAR BOAR (31 mm ร— 57 mm bleached boar)
  • Razor: Koraat โ€“ r/Wetshaving exclusive Moarteen (15/16", full hollow, carbon steel)
  • Lather: Catie's Bubbles โ€“ Saturday Morning
  • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. โ€“ Satsuma
  • Fragrance: Acqua di Parma โ€“ Blu Mediterraneo Arancia di Capri

My first use of Saturday Morning. I bought this tub off u/EldrormR on a whim. I get a lot of sweet orange from the soap, almost OJ, hence the combination with orange-forward post and frag. I guess I need to get a box of Froot Loops now!

I shaved 10 hours ago, but didn't get to post until now.
