I have replaced it as my active site,

So there is still stuff that's more active on reddit, like football news, but I am now just a lurker there I don't contribute I just read if there is an update then if it's relevant I post it from there to Lemmy, so we can start building a community here.

Maybe if we talked about anything other than other social media sites I would.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I havent deleted my reddit account, but Im using reddit a lot less now

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Sadly, no. Just not enough content on Lemmy, yet.

As somebody who just uses the mobile site on Firefox, I didn't really feel affected by the API changes (besides the fact that Reddit once again showed their ugly face). All the subs I care about feel unchanged.

Mostly

A couple communities I enjoyed haven't come over yet but now that I can only check them on my PC I really only hop over there once a week.

I really dig this place over reddit though, it's a lot more chill and way better for my mental health.

Already done.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yes, but I've found myself browsing a lot more on different sites too. Instead of opening RiF to find stuff, I just look at YouTube or redgifs directly. Turns out I never needed a middleman for that, so there's no need to use the fediverse for that now.

The important news and discussion is plentiful here, so that'll be my main purpose of opening wefwef or whatever app is better.

Yes, I am now 90% on Lemmy - the new Memmy app for my iPad is close to Apollo-quality and Liftoff on my Android phone (S21) is β€œalmost” as good as Sync for Reddit was.

For Reddit, I am using RSS feeds only to browse for any posts that interest me - I am trying to not give them traffic if at all possible.

The content on Lemmy is getting better every day!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Definitely. For now I just need Relay for Lemmy.

Pretty much. I'll def never log in again.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Preaching to the choir to ask this here, tbh

but, yes.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm trying to and succeeding for the most part. I find a lot of my Google searches still lead to Reddit.

I only check Reddit now for a game sub which, while on Lemmy, doesn't have critical mass yet (and I'm not sure it will).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yep, left it cold turkey when the protests started as 99.95% of my browsing was done through Apollo.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

For browsing I have converted to Lemmy. For getting answers from a Google search I still click on the Reddit option. Lemmy doesn't show on a Google search and other forums are useless for information. Minus stack overflow.

Sure do.

I love the idea behind a decentralized discussion-world!

I'm trying to ser up my own Lemmy, but damn, it is hard sweating!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I gave Lemmy a shot after the API debacle on reddit. First week was bumpy with lots of timeouts and servers that weren't able to handle all the new users from reddit.

It quickly improved. So much so that I went ahead and deleted my reddit account.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I made it cozy already at Squabbles.io, but I'm giving Lemmy a try. Since Joey still works I do browse Reddit now and then.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Now that Boost no longer works, I have no reason to go to Reddit. Lemmy all the way at this point.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

TBH I could have continued using Reddit as it was in may. Now I'm basically kicked off of a Reddit experience that doesn't treat me like livestock in a cage (the official app). So here I am.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I’m fully on Lemmy now except when I need to find historical information - for example episode discussions from a TV show or how to fix computer issues, etc.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

If reddit kills my patched third party app then I'm done using it on mobile, and if they kill old.reddit then I'm done using it on desktop. I'd switch to Lemmy or kbin full time but the content variety is VERY low compared to reddit still, especially for more niche topics like specific games or hobbies.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I went all in on Lemmy and honestly am having a better time than I did on Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I've already managed to replace Reddit on mobile. On the desktop, however, I'm partially there. There are still a couple of communities I follow that only exist on reddit.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I haven’t been on Reddit since Apollo went dark. I’m done with it except for a couple specific communities until similar ones are available here.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Sucks for videos and gifs though. I don't want to click a blind link to see a gif or video

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yes. This is my new Reddit replacement

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yes. I used both for a while but Reddit got quiet and no point in using Reddit without the apps.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, deleted RIF early and just pretend it doesn't exist. I'll probably use it if a useful answer pops up on Google, but not for scrolling.

Lemmy and Threads will have to fill the gap for now, but if they grow I don't see a problem at all.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I like it way more here. It's so much faster and there are no ads.

The reddit app is just bad and slow.
