i had assumed that i was the only one that felt like this about mickey 17 and megalopolis; that they had fantastic premises, but feel apart at the end with nonsensical endings when they could have made meaningful commentary about our lives.

it felt like they were kowtowing to our hegemony and i wonder if this is the pattern we're going to keep seeing in movies from now on.

Capitalist realism has ruined the endings of a lot of novels, film, TV, video games, etc. It’s just like Frederic Jameson & Mark Fischer said, “It’s easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.”
