As a resident of the Canadian portion of Cascadia I'd be in favour of a European style union of your former states and Canada. Unfortunately you're too big and too American (for lack of a better term) heavily armed [found it] to just let you in. Maybe we could handle Hawaii but I'm sure they'd probably rather be their own country than join us which is totally fair.

Too bad Arizona is in the way, NM wants to join you at least parts of us do.

Conveniently, if any states were to join Canada, they would most likely do so as territories (at least initially), and so would be somewhat politically neutered.

The US just does not have the power to take on its allies and the rest of the world in open aggression. Any thought that it does is illusory, look at relatively small countries like Vietnam and Afghanistan where it just had to leave or the terrible mess of the Middle East. It can not colonise in the way it was possible to do 200 years ago, the power asymmetry is just not there. Added into that many of the targeted countries are nuclear powers and part of numerous combined defense treaties. Any real action he takes will be visited back on him in equal or larger measure. At some level the US if not Trump must instinctively understand this, it is the past rational for proxy over direct wars.

The thing is Canada would just peacefully trade with us if we would let them, and Donald Trump is clearly using mein Kampf as an instruction manual, he's basically all like "the first thing the Nazis did? The Anschluss! I guess we're going to have to Anschluss Canada"

I’ll do my best to give you a short introduction.

Ever heard of the French revolution and the beheading of rich people? Let's put it this way, there are no more beheadings but when the government does something that the majority of the population doesn't like, things start to burn and shit breaks. "Liberté" is a big part if not the biggest part of French culture.

The same goes for their military. France was a colonial power for many centuries. And doesn't put up with anything if someone tries to act stupid. Like recently when France sent a nuclear submarine to Canada when Trump said he wanted to annex Canada. They also have the Foreign Legion which anyone can join and is considered one of the toughest armies in the world.

I've only scratched the surface, but France is basically what you get if fuck around and find out was a country.
