I'm only using connect because it has the hide read/scrolled past post feature. With all the other apps I've tried and I've tried them all they always show the exact same post for like a day straight because they don't go away when I have already looked at them.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How do you do that? hide posts you've already seen

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Tap the hamburger icon, select settings, enable "Hide read post", save settings.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same, gonna switch to boost asap.

It'll be different for everyone but it's just the Reddit app the had the best layout for me, it had all the features I liked, multiple accounts, posts reliably marked as read while scrolling and then you could hide read posts whenever you want with a button (connect does it automatically so you sometimes lose posts you'd rather see again) You can choose the content type you want to see, I'd often hide albums/images so I only see GIFs/vids for... reasons.

Edit: the comment problem is already fixed in an update, I'm not dissing Connect. It's very feature rich already. I just want what I know better.

Easier OP and myself identifiers in comments, right now on Connect I'm really struggling to find my own comments in threads because I just have the same colour as everyone else. Notifications actually showed you the context when you clicked on them, with connect I'm having to click the post I got a comment on, then go and find my comment (harder without myself identifiers) and then figure out which comment was new.

It's probably just because I'm familiar with it as I'm sure a lot of Reddit 3PA's had similar features but the layout felt very readable while also being minimalist. Whatever features Connect has right now, Boost has but it's better and has more features. But I understand Connect is still pretty new. But I'm hoping Boost releases as just a port of the Reddit version with all the features already baked in because they've done it before, just changing where it loads the content from.

The one thing that kept me from using it was all the comments buttons being on the right side of comments. When I browse I use my left hand, so reaching over makes it difficult to use. I could never find a way to change this and mentioned it several times on the Boost subreddit and it just got ignored.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

It was my primary way of accessing Reddit for over 5 years I guess. I'm on android, so I don't think boost is out for lemmy yet for me.

I went to the playstore, and looked for boost. Although it's not yet released, it already lists the data that will be collected (quite a lot).

Meanwhile jerboa states that it collects and shares no data. It has room for improvement, but it's fully functional and fits my needs for browsing Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Jerboa seems to work fine for me. Reviews complained about minor issues and crashing but I haven't experienced any of that.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Didn't have any crashes, the only small issue I have is that scrolling isn't always very smooth, although it's better with the latest release.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

For me, scrolling was very laggy on jerboa. Liftoff is silky smooth.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

When I first started it was super buggy and couldn't even login properly but checked in after a while and its working pretty well now. Ig those are old reviews before they fixed all the issues.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Connect doesn't collect or share any data either. I've personally had a better experience with Connect than I had with Jerboa.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I only had issues with jerboa when they were unable to update the instance. Now that that's done it's been fine for me.

I like the way jerboa handles the UI better than Connect. I've used WefWef as well and I keep coming back to jerboa.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Wewef is my go to. It is so far the fastest and it gets updates frequently. Also love the swipe to vote and swipe to replay.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Its very basic. The mobile web version has loads more feature

I'll use it when it already has block user and block community.

Btw. Connect for lemmy has block Instance . The only current app to have that feature as far as i know

I use liftoff and I like it.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

So far I've been using mainly jerboa and connect, swapping between the two when one gets annoying.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jerboa has the best features and customizing, but is also the worst. I get more errors on Jerboa that I can handle.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jerboa and Connect have been mostly stable for me (not without bugs). My biggest problem is the beehaw.org instance really really likes to 502

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Jerboa often just crashes whenever I go to save an image, that's the main problem I've had with it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is literally exactly what I'm doing too!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Omg same but Connect is horrible so I uninstalled it. Only tried it because Lemmy had a bug and wouldn't work for a bit.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Really? I've been using Connect and have been mostly happy with it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

You can't see dislikes nor create a post with an image. There also isn't (if I remember correctly) a guide while writing for formatting.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Connect has been updating so frequently that every problem I've had with it ends up getting fixed the next day.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

I'm using Thunder and I love the look and feel but it's obvious that it's still in alpha with all the broken/missing features

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (3 children)
[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Honestly I probably will still get sync pro for Lemmy but Connect is really good and depending on how things go I might keep it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Connect has some annoying quirks but overall has been pretty good.

Though not gonna lie, the Lemmy web interface isn't really that bad either. It's not an app to be sure, but at least it runs pretty smooth.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I'm happily using Connect. I doubt I'll be switching to Boost or Sync when they arrive, since I wasn't using them for Reddit however, if Relay for Lemmy becomes a thing I could be interested.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Connect keeps getting left out on these and it makes me a little more sad because I know I'm going to easily forget it the second sync drops.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Memmy and Mlem gang checking in.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Using liftoff rn but I have boost for lemmy scheduled to download when it releases

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I have only tried jerboa and is currently using the PWA. Is there any of the apps that looks like RIF, and has dark mode support?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

People say liftoff is the most RIF like

I'm using Liftoff atm, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to try Sync when it comes.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Me: can't decide between Connect, Liftoff and Jerboa. I'll try Sync and Boost on release day

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I'm rocking with the PWA for now but you better believe I'm signed up for that Boost release

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I am gonna try sync but I really like liftoff so I'm not sure I will make the switch

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Love Sync, but liftoff has potential too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm waiting for Slide, I might even try to help the development but idk shit about android apps so maybe it's better I don't touch it lmao.

Slide has the best customization I have seen for any reddit app hands down.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Slide was great. Is it being actively developed for Lemmy or are you just hoping?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

https://github.com/bqv/slide

The last commit was 2 days ago which shows promise. It's not the same author, but slide was on source anyways so the more publicity and contributors it gets, the better.
