Cheezus Crust. Just because of one removed comment you got so fucking mald. Get some perspective. YDI. Don't make every post in PTB about drag and neopronouns.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

it’s not about drag and neopronouns, it’s about concern trolling…

[-] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

And yet, that discussion immediately devolved into a drag & neopronouns argument. See how that works? Use other comparisons and less trolly phrasing.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

i have zero control over what other people talk about, i certainly wasn’t goading them into….
maybe, just maaaaybe, it’s relevant to mods banning real vegans for “not being a real vegan”.

talking about concern trolling in a post about concern trolling isn’t “trolly” just because you personally don’t like it.

just let people talk about what people want to talk about… it’s not going to hurt anything

[-] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Unfortunately I have to look the big picture, and some topics, like drag, tend to dominate posts and unnecessarily heat up discussions in PTB into flamewars. You don't have control, but I do have responsibility to curate this community to be positive and not have every goddamn topic discussing neopronouns. You got one (1) comment removed, ffs. Just use a different comparison.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

well you’re treating me as if i’m every other person that brought it up.
sorry but not sorry, it’s a pretty glaring example of concern trolling.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I literally just removed one (1) comment because it's causing this drama yet again. Not everything is meant to a personal affront to you! You really need to get some perpective and chill the fuck out.

I already explained the reasoning so I don't think there's anything left to say here.

But if this thread starts the neopronouns discussion once more, I'm locking it like the rest.

Try being more constructive. You begin to identify a genuine issue but you attribute it to some conspiracy that all the mods are trying to exclude leftists by making controversial rules. I think that is incorrect, they are trying their best even if their policy I wouldn't fully agree with. It's hard to get everyone to agree on anything, but leftists doubly so.

So, what is the moderation style that you'd want to see in a Lemmy community? Could you find or create a community on an instance like lemm.ee that might fit that better?

Just being salty about having your incendiary comment removed won't accomplish much.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Hello,

Completely unrelated, but as I see you here, could you have a look at this thread? Looking for Canadian perspective: https://lemmy.ca/post/35100507/13832375

[-] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Yeah sure. I think the removed commentor is being extremely pedantic in their reasoning to dismiss this person as "a nobody". It's very nuanced:

They are correct but only in a technical sense: the part(ies) controlling the Parliament form the Government, 2nd place party (Conservatives) is the Official Opposition, the others are Recognized Parties within the legislature. However, the Liberals have been running a minority government with a plurality but not a majority of seats. And until September 2024, the NDP, which meant that Charlie Angus and the MPs in that caucus were helping keep the Liberal government intact in exchange for legislation that were in the NDP's (more left wing) interests.

In the international sense, Parliament is our legislative branch of a government, "Government" is the executive and our court system is the judicial branch.

Let me get extremely pedantic here: is MP Angus part of the Government (aka the federal government) in official Canadian terms? No. To say MP Angus is part of the government (in an international sense, without using specific terms like federal government or Government of Canada) is perfectly acceptable, understood fine in Canada as much as elsewhere. You'll notice the wiki page on it is very careful to differentiate the terms.

Anyway, the thread linked is not the place to school people on these technicalities, and the user's use of this to reach the conclusion suggesting MP Angus and the NDP are nobodies is false and misleading. The distinction or stretch of logic specifically is that "not part of the government" ≠ "a nobody in the legislature" when the user themselves were implicitly conflating the two in the beginning.

YDI.

Okay, there's no rule explicitly saying "don't bring up old and divisive discussions, that are likely to derail the new discussions into off-topic"... but come on that's a given innit?

[-] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

YDI. No need to bring past drama into current posts

[-] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

YDI. Stop bringing the argument into the comments.

Guess what? This is just humans. This is your normal in-group/out-group dynamics. It's tribalism, it's always always tribalism.

It's not some shady group trying to undermine you, it's that humans by and large fucking suck at this stuff and recognizing when they're doing it. It's why I never felt much affinity for "groups" to begin with, because they always devolve to this.

And others are right, by bringing up the drag drama, you undermine your own point.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

it’s a salient example of the strategy i’m talking about. this isn’t a natural consequence of having groups.

there’s no way the mods think that a vegan who would prefer a vegan restaurant adds a couple meat items over them closing entirely “was never really a vegan” and should be banned.
and likewise, there’s no way people think that dra**** is a real pronoun that that person actually identifies as, and people discrediting that are anti-people’s gender identity.
it’s exactly the same thing.
it’s concern trolling.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

If somebody asks me to refer to drag that way, I'll just do it. Why not?

If drag's fun to be around, I might hang out, if drag sucks or is boring, I'll move on and talk to somebody else.

I wouldn't take multiple days out of my life to scream about how "they don't really mean it" or how it breaks a rule my first grade teacher taught me about grammar.

Are you trolling right now? The mod thought you were.

People think and do dumb shit all the time completely genuinely. Just because something seems crazy to you doesn’t mean it seems crazy to everyone. We all have a different perspective.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Look, I lived in the pre-internet days. I can tell you it's fucking tribalism, because it was exactly the same in small community groups before the internet.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

You have a point on the concern trolling, but fwiw I think you could characterize the vegan situation a bit differently - read e.g. https://sopuli.xyz/post/21265293/13960349. Whether we agree with their position or not, they do have one, and it behooves the cause of finding truth to characterize it as accurately as possible.

[-] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

i think it’s the same thing, but they do have a toe to stand on with the vegan one…
but with the mods banning people with a note saying “you were never a real vegan”… i find that incredulous and more likely concern trolling than just being an asshole.
actual vegans don’t talk like that.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

What? Actual vegans definitely talk like that. Not just online, in real life. I have personally heard vegans say the same thing. It isn't even just a small handful. I know a decent number of vegans out here. Some of them are friends and relatives, so I spend time with them in restaurants, bars, and other shared spaces as well as private spaces.

The ones that are part of my life by choice are the sorts that don't treat being vegan like a crusade, they make their life choice, and live it with strength and their own actions without making it about imposing their beliefs on others.

And I have personally been present when some of them were verbally attacked for that. By vegans. The exact phrase "you aren't a real vegan" has been used in my presence by vegans to vegans. Also, "you're just a vegetarian, you don't really care about animals" because the target simply wasn't willing to fuss and fight non vegans over a difference in belief.

Hell, you just drew a gatekeeping line by saying "actual vegans don't talk like that". So, if you're a vegan, you just talked like that, even though it wasn't the same gatekeeping.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1280 readers
139 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
