thing is, dogs evolved to obey and seek approval from humans. it's why so many of them will just take abuse for a long time and then finally snap.

Yeah it's largely that people who are used to dogs just aren't used to cat behaviour. Cats definitely do show affection but aren't dependent on you the way a dog is.
