Its creator argued that the game is no different from numerous games that allow users to kill Arabs

If I can mow down Arab and Russians and Chinese soldiers in any number of American video games, why not Israelis?

The article talks about gushing blood and gruesome visuals as if CoD didn’t ask us to commit a terrorist attack in an airport 15 years ago. At least this game narrows your targets to IDF soldiers, according to the article.

Also, the game historically has had ~25 concurrent players at any given time. I don’t think this game is as important as certain people would want you to believe.

To be fair, there was an awful lot of controversy about that CoD mission at the time.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

True, but it still exists. Obviously the controversy wasn't THAT big of a deal

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

I would even argue the controversy about it is the point. It's art. It's meant to make you think about things you might not ever consider, and in the case of No Russian, it's the horror of committing a terrorist attack. Imo, it's an intentional but valuable (both financially and ethically) lesson in what art can do

Yeah, that's not the best example. I think the ac-130 mission is a much better example because I don't remember it getting a lot of controversy despite it being pretty non-chalant about you decimating the ground forces like it was just another day in the office (or rather in the air). It's the ultimate "dehumanize the enemy" mission because you could replace the targets with pretty much anyone and the mission would play exactly the same.

It's because right wing people are simping for and sticking up for Israel, and the IDF. Notice how in the Article it's LibsOfTikTok who's calling out the game and encouraging its removal from Steam?

Edit: For people not in the know LibsOfTikTok is an alt-right American internet personality, and also apparently a news curator now. They push a lot of anti-trans hate and alt-right talking points on Twitter, and they're probably a terrorist too.

We have so many games with the same concept, but yet doing it against Israel is a big no no.

Fuck off already Israel.

Is literally nobody going to mention the fact the title of this post says "on October 7th" as if the game is about Oct 7th when it infact was released in 2022. The posters a liar, the article is a liar both to make this seem worse than it is.

This past November, the game released an update called “Operation al-Aqsa Flood,” in which the fighters paraglide into an IDF military base.

So every game featuring the M16 is "about" every event ever involving an M16. Giga brained.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

I was just sharing where in the article it said even though the game came out in 2022, the update regarding the 10/7 attack released earlier this year.

its creator, a Brazilian man named Nidal Nijm

OH MY GOD IT HAD TO BE A FUCKING BRAZILIAN!!! 😆😆😆😆

Also, as many on the thread pointed out, so did the creator:

Nijm has a point about the violence normalized in the video game industry; many of the most famous, lauded and widely-played video games feature graphic violence, often directed against Arab enemies. Call of Duty has several installments featuring Arab militant enemies, and it’s the entire plot of games like Six Days in Fallujah.

Call of Duty for brown people. Dunno what's the fuss.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The brown soldier can't shoot the white soldier that is doing a terrorism!!!

I bet the creator of this lazy asset flip is thrilled about this publicity.

Edit: for some reason replies think I'm being sarcastic.

That he has more eyes on the terror of the IDF? Sure. He's a Palestinian victim of the US and Israel.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago

It's a very clear political statement. Would you prefer if it had a Season Pass and cosmetics shop to meet modern gaming standards?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It is made by one (1) Palestinian so yes.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

From the headline, I was ready to read about shooting civilians and bombing waterworks, schools and fucking hospitals. What a yawnfest bull-shit pile of a story.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 days ago

No, that would be a game where you play as Israel.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If only it wasn't asset flip jank

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"all violence inflicted on Palestine by Israel is self defense" is only true on opposite day and is only as true as the corollary because turnabout is fair play.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Never occurred to me before, but a legally recognized opposite day would be like the purge.
