Anyone else check it out? They want access to everything. And there is no website, only an app. Yikes.

There's a reason why it isn't available in EU.

Isn't it just awaiting some kind of approval?

An image showing the data safety guidelines for Threads, as provided by the Google Play Store.

That is a lot of data collection...

Yeah I saw the list posted somewhere, had a chuckle, and went on my merry way. There's a reason this kraken of an app is banned in the EU.

A somewhat tech savvy user can probably use App Ops and Storage Isolation to restrict all of the data and spoof the rest, but luckily I don't even feel tempted. Never got the appeal of Twitter, can't be bothered to even try Mastodon, and Threads, just no.

It's not even banned. Meta didn't release it there knowing full well they'd get penalised in some way.

Also, 78 MBs for a Twitter clone is ridiculous (and alarming)! Twitter asks for 36 MBs while Mastodon only 1.6 MBs!

It's probably because Threads is made entirely with JetpackCompose

Yeah, it's why I started staying away from the official social media or company apps.

Yeah. The insistence of Facebook to use their Messenger app on mobile is a big reason I've always been suspicious of it.
