It is an old social democratic/socialist anti-colonial party allied with the ruling Ba'ath party.

The party calls for an undivided Syria, a popular demand of the Syria-Palestine population during the King Crane commission survey (conducted in 1919)

The party is famous for conducting suicide bombings against the Zionists. Half the suicide bombers were woman. It was founded in Lebanon where its armed wing (Eagles of the Whirlwind) is currently fighting the Zionists.

The party’s logo symbolizes the merging of the cross and the crescent into a new unit (the whirlwind).
