Tinder was advertised by that idol involved with the Burning Sun incident. I wouldn't want to be on that app either.

"Where should I fine my partner. I know! The app that was supported by the guy whose club was pretty much just a r*pe den. I'm sure I'll find the man of my dreams."

Ever notice how one of the hot dogs in the upper right corner is actually a finger?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

I had not no.

Reminds me of the whole "hot dogs or legs" thing.

The "gay" option is probably removed from Korean Tinder from what I know about their government

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Korea doesn't support gay people?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Same-sex relationships aren't criminalized, but that's a far cry from being supported

Really weird from a country where the men beauty standard is being super effeminate.

Dating in South Korea is rough in general, more than other Asian countries. Apparently it's devolved into a violent culture war. On one hand, it's no wonder women are unwilling to date. On the other hand, that's going to further fuel desperation and therefore extremist sentiment in men and further the downward spiral of the culture war.

I'm not saying that the male position is right here, but I genuinely do not see a possibility that the culture war stops spiraling

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

I mean i agree that this culture war is not gonna stop anytime soon, but please dont blame the victims, its not their fault that this is spiraling out of control, nobody own incels a date. Its not the current protest that are adding fuel to the fire, its the incapability of theses men to accept no for an answer.

And as a woman I can’t see any reason to stop being so firm. It’s very reminiscent of actual strikes

I've heard about the recent movement, but have no idea what the backstory is. Why are women so upset in south Korea?

[–] [email protected] 78 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Women lose the ability to have a career as soon as there's a hint of a boyfriend. Employers check. They're expected to become mothers, and dedicate their life to taking care of their children, husband and household, while not really having any say in it.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's even worse than that. There's a lot of sexual harassment and a plague of men taking upskirt photos.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Is this prevalent in Korea too? I had always heard it was more of a Japanese cultural issue, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was present in other countries in the region/world.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

It's even more of an issue in Korea these days.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 4 days ago

That's horrible , this mentality is horrible for everyone, hope that end soon

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

I wonder what protections they have. Japan has been fighting a similar thing and upping protections and their enforcement, but it's still not where it needs to be.

Moon Channel has videos explaining the historic and cultural context that has led to this:

Ranked competitive dating

It feels like that where I am in the US when you take into account all the bots.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There's sexy single bots in your area that want to chat

They're binary

Like a Korean slut disneyworld!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Does Korea have a huge gender imbalance in general?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

What they have is a serious misogyny problem and a fairly strong lysistratite movement. It’s called 4B and while I have issues with aspects of it I’m generally sympathetic to the organized denial of reproductive labor until conditions improve.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 4 days ago

No, but they do treat women like crap. I wouldn't be wanting to meet with random men if I were them, either.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago

Not as far as I know, but they make America's political division between the sexes look relatively sane by comparison

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 days ago

Might as well play lottery.

I wonder if they use Tinder to make friends like they do in Japan. Afaik, Tinder isn't necessarily for dating over there.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

A lot of profiles will say things like "only looking for friends" and such, but that's more about image than reality in case someone else sees it (though, yes, everyone knows what is actually going on). There are people who do use it for friends, but it is (or at least was until I got married a few years ago) still used for its, er, intended purpose.
