Fascinating that the place has such world class acoustics even today, it's quite impressive.

Indeed! Since we were strengthening it already, the 2m donation is great to really squeeze out the best of the investment.

It's always been a stunning hall with fantastic acoustics - why not chuck recording equipment in?

I imagine there's only a handful of places you can record a symphony orchestra anyway, regardless of acoustics.

Well yes, it would need to be huge, but I think the whole point of that sort of thing is the 'room sound' - not just directly micing up each performer, but also having wide range mics picking up the broader ambiance. Kinda like why drums are sometimes recorded in stairwells and funny places (the reverberations don't bleed off into a large room) - that's less-relevant to an orchestra, but recording engineers like to get the organic room sound as well so where appropriate they can mix it in

Tangent, but describing a facility as being "multi-million dollar" in 2023 is kinda meaningless - try building anything for less a couple of million
